Whiskey News at Southern Spirits!!
From Keith Haze, Liquor Manger for Southern Spirits:
Hey there booze fans! ‘Tis the season to be jolly, and if you like whiskey then Southern Spirits is the place to be. I know what you are thinking…but Southern Spirits already has the best selection?!?!? Well as many of you know I am never happy with the status quo and am always searching for the latest and greatest. So I have been out there every day looking for the best stuff and for whatever reason it all arrived yesterday!!!!! It is a wonderful time to be alive people!
NEW ARRIVALS
MONKEY 47: This tasty German gin has been requested by several of you, and I think it is a worthy addition to our awesome collection! This baby is for Martini’s or to be had straight.
ST. GEORGE ABSINTHE 200ML: If you have always been curious about Absinthe but did not want to buy a full bottle, we now have the BEST absinthe in this smaller size.
STRANAHANS: I can never get a straight answer out of a distributor but apparently Stranahans is now back to stay? I ordered five cases of it, two of which flew out the door yesterday. I love this whiskey from Colorado.
DIAGEO ORPHAN BARREL SERIES PART 4 “LOST PROPHET”: 22 year old bourbon from “Stizel-Weller” These are all one shots, and this one has gotten the best reviews yet.
SIGNATORY SHIPMENT!!!!!!: If you have not yet experienced the awesomeness of a Signatory scotch you should fix that immediately! They are an independent bottling company that buys the juice when it is young and raises it themselves. So mostly what you have is single barrel whiskey. Which while somewhat common in bourbon is pretty rare in scotch. Why does this matter? It matters because the master distiller is taking care to make sure that this is the best whiskey it can be. They are not bound by a proof or an age statement so this stuff is bottled when ready. This creates a unique expression of a familiar whiskey. I hope that someone in the Signatory family is reading this and wants to marry me!!!
SIGNATORY AUCHENTOSHAN: Auchentoshan is an underappreciated Scotch from the lowlands. It is triple distilled like an Irish whiskey so that makes it lighter and smoother. This makes it perfect for Signatory which should make a much more intense version of this normally laid back whiskey.
SIGNATORY BOWMORE: Hey peat fans, I know we get left out of all the new and exciting scotches but not from our friends at Signatory, they know that we too want new and exciting whiskeys!
SIGNATORY CAOL ILA: This was the very first Signatory I ever had, and in some ways remains my favorite. Once again, their ability to take a mild whiskey and intensify it works so well.
SIGNATORY EDRADOUR: No this is not the Caledonia, but this is one hell of a consolation prize! We welcome back this exquisite whisky!
SIGNATORY HIGHLAND PARK: What happens when one of my favorite distilleries gets the Signatory treatment? Magic my friend, magic!!!
SIGNATORY LAPHROAIG: Those of you who caught this last time already know how special she is! What happens when you mix peat with butterscotch? Genius happens! Nothing quite like it!
A.D. RATTRAY BOWMORE 17: Before Signatory existed, this guy was running around choosing the best barrels and bottling them they way he wanted too. This is a rare and hard to find whiskey. Single cask whiskey aged to perfection.
A.D. RATTRAY AUCHENTOSHAN 23: Again we have a single barrel cask strength scotch that has been aged to perfection. Your wife/husband has every scotch known to man? They do not have this one, I guarantee it!
STRONACHIE THE LOST DISTILLERY: This close down distillery was once famous for making some of the best whiskey in the world. Well they have done their best to recreate the formula and give you a chance to time travel.
LONGROW RED: Those of you who were smart enough to buy the Longrow Peated already know that Springbank’s second distillery makes awesome whiskey. Well this year they went ahead and aged in Port! Just holding this bottle makes me thirsty!
DOS MANOS TEQUILA: Want a real tequila without breaking the bank? This is your buddy, we now carry the blanco and the reposado.
TONALA: I have been waiting to be reunited with this Tequila for six years! I have the reposado which has been aged for 11 months (much longer than average) in white oak and it is exceptional! I also have the SINGLE BARREL anejo which has been aged for 4 years!!! This is an amazing tequila and will not be found elsewhere!
I HAD TO SAVE THE BEST FOR LAST!!!
EDRADOUR BAROLO!!!: What happens when you put the best scotch into some of the finest Italian wine barrels? I do not know and it is killing me, but I am certain it is something incredible. This tiny production has landed here and is flying off my shelf.
EDRADOUR BALLECHIN: Not content to rest of their laurels the fine folks at Edradour, decided to first: Heavily Peat this scotch and second: age it in Sauterne barrels. Why would anyone mix the sweet with the peat? Because that contrast is an amazing flavor simply not found in nature, but in Scotland you can find peated syrup which is what inspired the High West Campfire! Only 6 um make that 5 bottles of this baby!
