The Latest Liquor New From Your Favorite Liquor Store
Hey booze fans, this year is off to be a pretty good start. Each section is brimming with fun stuff to try and or revisit (except for you Canada!). There are many of you who have contributed in the idea department, and all of you have helped in the success department. Each time you buy that new bitter, vermouth, rum, brandy etc…a message is being sent to us and to our distributors that you guys respect and want quality! That we are not going to put up with mediocre garbage that was hastily put together by a brainless marketing department! We are living in a time in which these big dinosaurs are being vanquished by passionate people who are making some of the best booze ever. I salute all of you adventurous and passionate people who have provided both the impetus and support in making this the best store in the Carolina’s. When I got in my beat up Toyota to drive out here all the way from California with all the booze I could fit in my car, and a few items of clothing I really had no idea what to expect. I believed in myself and I believed that quality would matter in any zipcode. You all have happily proved me right, and to the naysayers all I can say is, you literally do not know what you are missing. You do not have to blow your bank account to find quality.
YELLOW ROSE FRIDAY 3:30-6:30
We welcome back our lovely Mian for a fantastic tasting of a newish distillery from Houston Texas. These folks have made two excellent bourbons and one tasty rye! It is a common misconception that Bourbon must come from Kentucky. Bourbon is a whiskey that must follow a set of rules, and none of them are based on geography. I was drinking some Bourbon from Jupiter the other day…oops not supposed to talk about that. The point is that this so called “bourbon shortage” has simply caused a bunch of smart folks to start making their own.
WINE FRIDAY 4:00-6:00
RODNEY STRONG CHALK HILL: Rodney Strong is unfortunately strongly associated with their worst wines instead of their best ones. Try one of the good ones.
O.P.P.: Unclear whether Naughty By Nature is suing this winery, but here is another Oregon Pinot. Other Peoples Pinot Noir. Do not be afraid of the twist off, everyone that has had a “corked” wine knows that screw tops are much safer and should no longer be associated with bad wines.
B SIDE: Cabernet Sauvingnon, a nicer version of wine from the Sebastiani folks.
The Big Easy: A Rhone blend from the talented folks at Fess Parker. Consistently receives big scores from Wine Spectator.
MUDDY RIVER 2/27 SATURDAY 2:00-5:00
GEORGE 3/4 FRIDAY 3:30-6:30
DELORD SATURDAY 3/26
APRIL TBD HIGH WEST WITH JOE ZIEGLER
KEITHS’ CABINET: What Keith is drinking now.
YELLOW ROSE OUTLAW: I found this to be a good substitute for Blanton’s. It is on the sweeter side, super smooth, and has a very tasty finish.
FOUR ROSES SINGLE BARREL: Yummy! This is a distillery that continues to impress, year after year.
FOUNDERS REDANKULOUS: This imperial red is fantastic. A well balanced, but powerful beer that demonstrates that when Founders is on target they can really make beer.
DIPLOMATICO: Cold day, warm day, this rum makes it a great day.
POLI CLEOPATRA: Best name for this Grappa, because once I tasted her I have not been able to stop thinking about her since. Leave it to me to fall in love with the most expensive grappa I have ever seen! This is an indescribably wonderful treat that destroyed every preconceived notion I had of grappa and left me a changed man!
POLI BLUEBERRY: Before I could even recover from the Cleopatra I was introduced to the best tasting blueberry brandy ever! Things probably should not taste this good!
NARDINI TAGLIATELLA: This one is just impossible to describe. I feel like this is what every spiced liqueur ever made has wanted to accomplish but failed. A sweet start, but a bitter finish. You could spend hours picking apart the enormous amount of flavors going on here. Is there a market for this? Hell yes there is! This was made for everyone that is ready for a brand new adventure!
WAQAR PISCO: I am sorry my Peruvian friends but Chile makes Pisco too (stop rolling your eyes!). My Chilean friends have requested a new quality Pisco so here it is!
FUNDADOR BRANDY: Another excellent buy from Spain. Stop drinking Hennessy already! Get a much better brandy for less money! Remember folks Brandy is a thing, Cognac is a place. Stop paying for words written on a label and pay for quality!
STONEWALL RUM: This rum from Pennsylvania is made in the colonial style that used to be the major American spirit. I am very excited to try this!
MEZCALES DURANGO: This is the best Mezcal I have ever had! A perfect balance of smoke and agave. So smooth, so flavorful, so hard to not purchase right now!!!
SHOUT OUT OF THE WEEK: JASMINE GRILL
Want the best greek food ever for a reasonable price? Stop on by this quiet, low key establishment that might like ambience but makes the best schwarma I have ever eaten (including while in Greece!) Everything on the menu is top notch!
AGED RUM DAIQUIRI
2 OZ OF AGED RUM (Diplomatico, Motu, Ron Medellin 8)
1 oz of Lime Juice
.75 oz of Simple Syrup (agave nectar)
Like most drinks that have been ruined by chain restaurants and incompetent bartenders the Daiquiri has gotten a bad rap from all of these super sweet versions. Try the real thing and recognize this refreshing and tasty cocktail, perfect for the cold weather.
