Southern Spirits Has Beer, Wine and Liquor Deals You Will Love!
Hey there boozefans, I was given a lovely framed poem by a customer yesterday. It was in response to one of my boozeletters.
“Love is a place
& through this place of
love move
(with brightness of peace)
all places
yes is a world
& in this world of yes live
(skillfully curled)
all worlds”
-e e cummings
What this poem means to me is that when you say no all of the time you close all of the doors. You are shutting out all of the “worlds”. When you say yes, you are opening doors and worlds and your possibilities expand as fast as you can open them. I understand how this might seem like hyperbole when we are discussing your choice of vodka. My counter-argument is that even something so seemingly small is bigger than you think. One good thing often leads to another. When you discover that you like a Brandy then you find out that you like five, and that you like brandy based cocktails, smoking jackets, and a latent ability to speak French! My father has been eating cheerios for 851 years, and I find that to be quite sad. He was raised in a house of No, and now his chains are his own. Be free! Break the rules! Put broccoli in your spaghetti if you want! Mix your drink how you like them! You are alive, participate in your own life! You want ice? Add ice! You think it’s not “lady like” to drink whiskey but you want to? Drink it! You think it is not “manly” to drink passion fruit? Who cares? Drink it, if you like it! Anyone mocking you is JUST jealous!
TASTINGS FRIDAY WINE 4:00-6:00
FRANK FAMILY CHARDONNAY: In my never humble opinion, this is the Chardonnay that Rombauer wishes that it was. You can have oak, butter, and vanilla without it being overbearing. This is a top flight winery and a perfect example of what California does well!
ROCO: MARSH ESTATE – Martha loves Oregon, Pinot Noir, and why not? They make world class Pinot Noir, 400 case production, doesn’t get much smaller than that. Why is that important? When a production is that small it means that great care was taken with each and every bottle versus some giant assembly line.
BERGEVIN LANE: A syrah from Columbia! I love Washington wines, and I love Washington Syrah.
CHARLES KRUG: The “other” Mondavi, Peter. I have personally always found him to be the best winemaker in the family. His brother Robert, was much more of a marketing guru than a winemaker.
KEITH’S CABINET: What Keith is drinking now
NICHOLSON 1842: I am enjoying this wheated bourbon. It made a great Manhattan, and it was pretty tasty straight as well. Despite being a 100 proof, I didn’t find it to be hot at all.
NARDINI GRAPPA: I just never saw myself drinking grappa and yet here I am, not only drinking it, but enjoying it a great deal! Rules are meant to be broken!
CHIEFTANS LINKWOOD 17: Love this scotch so much. It is just big and full and wonderful.
NO 209 BARREL AGED: I just love to end my evening with this. It is a great summer whiskey substitute.
OSCAR BLUES: This has of late been my go to beer, and that is because they make such large variety of wonderful beers!
CORSAIR TRIPLE WOOD: How about a smokey peaty, single malt from Tennessee? This is a totally unique whiskey, full of smoke and peat and completely distinctive from anything you have had before.
MEZCALERO SPECIAL BOTTLING #2: This small batch Mezcal was aged for three years and is by all accounts the top of Mezcal mountain.
GREENMARK VODKA: Eric was missing this outstanding Russian vodka and gently demanded its return over and over and over again, so here it is.
BIG GIN PEATED: How about a peated Gin from Seattle? Yes please! This was customer requested, but I am also very excited about this gin. These guys are professional gin makers and this particular gin is aged in Westland single malt barrels. If you do not know who Westland is, they make the finest domestic single malt in the country!
BLACKWOOD: Another Scottish gin! I really enjoyed this gin, and am looking forward to playing around with it. It has a very distinctive taste and should make an excellent martini, and gin and tonic.
PASSOA: The return of THE passion-fruit liqueur! Add a splash to your Caipirinha!
