November Booze News From Southern Spirits!
FRIDAY WINE 4:00-6:00
ELK COVE PINOT BLANC: Everyone is always raving about Oregon and their Pinot Noir, but they do not get enough credit for their awesome white wines. I love they continue to grow and show some of the forgotten varietals like Pinot Blanc.
PAUL BOUCHARD BURGUNDY: It is always hard to find affordable white Burgundy, but this is one of them!
GRAN PASSIONE ROSSO: IGT wines are often so of the most fun in Italy. It allows them to experiment with other grapes. In this case they have used the appassiamento method on Merlot! That is super exciting. Why should Amarone have all of the fun?
1448 RED BLEND: This has been a go to red for me, since the first day I tried it. It is affordable, easy drinking, and a crowd pleaser. I think Jeff Runquist has demonstrated his skill as a winemaker and not made anyone pay through their teeth for it.
SATURDAY 2:00-5:00 JACK AND FRIENDS
COLLINGWOOD: This is an easy drinking alternative to Crown Royal. Yes it is sweet like most Canadians, but not in an overpowering way.
COOPERS CRAFT: A new and easy drinking bourbon. We brought this in a while ago but it has been gaining momentum and popularity.
GENTLEMAN JACK: An older more intense version of old number 7.
KEITH’S CABINET (How I survived the Cubs World Series)
BIRDSONG PORTER! This beer was a key component during the entire Cubs playoff run! It is delicious and it will now forever have a special place in my heart!
LAPHROAIG CASK STRENGTH! This Scotch is a bull in a China shop, in the best possible way!
RON CARTAVIO XO: This was the one that soothed my pain during all three of those painful losses. I love this rum so very much.
DAVID NICHOLSON RESERVE: I made some amazing Manhattan’s with this and had some straight as well!
NEW ARRIVALS:
BRECKENRIDGE HIGH PROOF: I am very excited about this! I am going to try it next week but I couldn’t resist adding it now. If you haven’t already tried the regular you should do so.
GERMAIN ROBIN OLD AND RARE: I have been so excited to get this in the store!! I love Germain-Robin and my favorite critic loved this bottle. I might make this my Cubs win celebratory bottle.
These hot fall days are really messing with my cocktail menu!
THE SUBURBAN
I had this drink in Louisville Kentucky and fell in love with it.
1 oz of Ruby Port (Presidente Ruby, Grahams)
.5oz dark rum (ron cartavio black, brugal, plantation 5)
1.5 rye (virgil kane, Rittenhouse, James Oliver Rye)
Shake on ice and strain into an old fashioned glass
