Mother’s Day Made Simple for Dads
Ask any man what holiday brings out the most gift anxiety and chances are that the answer is Mother’s Day. While stores are full of gift ideas and rows of cards to express how much mothers mean to all of us, it can be daunting to rise to the challenge of finding that perfect gift. The funny thing is, if you ask any mom what gift she has received that meant the most to her, a gift that came from the heart is probably still closest to hers.
Here’s a secret for all the dads- you can let your kids take the lead! Become a team in planning the perfect Mother’s Day. This is a great opportunity to teach your children how much you respect and love your wife for the amazing job that she does each and every day to make your family life run smoothly. For daughters, they will see their father treasuring his wife and sons will learn by example how to treat the women that they love. Of all the teachable moments in life, taking the time to show their mom how much she means to them is one of the most important.
Even if your child is very young there are many things that you can do together to show your love. You can take them to a pottery shop like Dish It Out at Stonecrest where they can assist you with painting their hands for a plate for your wife. Perhaps you could plant a flower garden outside together as a surprise or pick up a Starbucks card together.
So how can your team make this Mother’s Day perfect for your wife? Plan, plan, PLAN!!
When you tuck the kids into bed, talk about ideas that they may have for the perfect Mother’s Day gifts.
Give your wife a morning to herself the Saturday before Mother’s Day. She will love having some alone time and it will give you time to prepare. Take the kids to her favorite store and allow them to pick out a gift for her. Pop over to Target for art supplies (make sure you have gift wrap!), head to the grocery store for breakfast ingredients, and let the children pick out their favorite flowers for a bouquet for mom.
Spend some great time with your children making cards. Lose yourself in stickers, cards and laughter with your little ones. Let them help to wrap the gifts you chose for her. Make sure to stash your vase of flowers and surprises where mom will never see.
Wake up early on Mother’s Day. Sneak downstairs with the kids and make something wonderful. Even if you just pour Special K in a bowl, you’re doing well. Even lumpy, misshapen pancakes are delicious when they are made with little hands and love. Let the kids take the lead. And remember, a little champagne in the orange juice is perfect for celebrating a big day and that’s where Southern Spirits can come in! We have excellent prices on sparkling wines for the perfect mimosa. Or, make the job even easier by getting a pre-made! Canella has wonderful pre-mades and our favorite is the Blood Orange Mimosa! So delicious and easy and for $14.99 cash, you can’t beat it!!
Have the children carry the gifts and flowers as you follow in with the tray. Everyone can pile into your bed for some delicious breakfast and maybe a few tears as your wife sees the thought you have all put into making her day the best day it can be.
Is your wife is pregnant (and can’t enjoy anything from SS) and this is her first Mother’s Day? How about putting together a photo album of pictures of the two of you becoming a family? You could include ultrasound pictures and shots of her ever expanding belly. Be sure to leave lots of room for the pictures to come. Even a gesture as small as writing her a letter telling her how much is means to you that she is having your baby and what a terrific mother she will make will be sure to melt her heart.
If you are grilling out dinner, don’t forget her favorite bottle of Pinot Grigio! We have Santa Margerita for $17.99.
Or if your wife love Skinny Girl cocktails, come check out our HUGE variety! We have all the flavors she loves at the lowest prices!
And when in doubt, you could always go for the three “magic M’s” of Mother’s Day!
Make a Massage appointment for your wife. (Maybe even a Manicure as well!)
Have a Maid Service come to clean the house.
Make reservations for a babysitter and dinner at her favorite restaurant.
No matter what gift you chose, what will matter most to your wife is how much you love her and love your family. There is no greater gift than a husband who truly appreciates the woman he married. And just think, you are setting yourself up for a great Father’s Day in return! At Southern Spirits, we are standing by to help you find something she will love!
