Closing out April with Some Awesome Liquor News
Hey there booze fans, thank you for showing up to support our High West tasting!! It was a huge hit with lots of sales. The winner was the Rendevous Rye just beating out The Bourye! I know that Joe loves coming out here because you guys are the best! When these tastings go well, we are able to get more tastings, so thank you all! I would love to do nothing but amazing tastings all the time, and someday when these folks figure out how awesome you guys are that might happen. I have spent a lot of time this week thinking about the vision I had when I arrived here and what I want to happen moving forward. I walked into a good store, but I wanted it to be the best store in the known universe. A store that no matter what you were into, you could find something you wanted and things you didn’t know you wanted but actually did. Like my best friend came up with English Muffin Sliders! Never had that before but now I want one right now and so do you! Also, it was crucial that I have a staff that could point people in the right direction and establish a trusting relationship. That might sound like some kind of California-hippie-dippie goobedly gock but, it is essential to me that if we put a bottle in your hand, that you feel like a winner! That we listen to what you say and meet your needs to the best of our collective ability. We love your feedback and we have these kinds of conversations “what should we give someone when they ask for Buffalo Trace?(since we never have it; and the answer is Corner Creek) When I was in California I enjoyed shopping at a particular store that had a fun inventory and a knowledgeable staff, BUT they were not inviting. They were quite judge mental and would often be visibly offended by various things customers would requests. You had to jump through hoops and know the code words. Here the only code word is being inside of the store. Once you are in the store we are not just willing to help, but we actively want to help.
TASTINGS: FRIDAY WINE 4:00-6:00
G.H. MUMM CORDON ROUGE: A classic Champagne house. Champagne must come from Champagne, France; everything else is sparkling wine. Prosecco is not champagne for example.
RICKSHAW PINOT NOIR: Everyone is always on the lookout for an affordable Pinot, Martha has found one.
PADRILLOS MALBEC: An affordable malbec from the Catena family.
RUBUS SHIRAZ: 92 PTS EDITORS CHOICE. A big fruity Shiraz from Barossa, perfect for picnics and bbq’s!
FRIDAY CIDRE TASTING 4:00-6:00
LE BRUN BRUT CIDRE: While the English are the more famous cider producers, France quietly makes some of the best cider in the world! They are dry and complex! Cider is a much wider genre than Angry Orchard and Woodchuck!
LE BRUN ORGANIC CIDRE: Hey are you gluten intolerant but still want to drink booze? Cider is the perfect answer.
SATURDAY TEQUILA AND MEZCAL 3:30-6:30
MILAGRO SILVER: This was my Patron killer when I first started. I find it to be clean, crisp, and with a little bit of citrus.
MILAGRO REPOSADO: A bold and spicy reposado, which can mixed or had straight.
MONTELOBOS MEZCAL: This mescal is a little friendlier than most. It still has plenty of smoke but it is not as overpowering as some of the others.
ANCHO REYES: This is an amazing liqueur that will turn any ordinary drink into a spicy and flavorful cocktail!
KEITH’S CABINET: What Keith drank this week
GEORGE BOTANIVORE GIN: My love for this Gin burns as strong today as it did the first time I tried it.
ICEBERG CUCUMBER: I keep making my cucumber/fever tree elderflower combo, because it is awesome.
SMOOTH AMBLER SINGLE BARREL: My bottle is almost dead. This stuff has been so good, I may have to break my rule and by another before it is all gone!
OSCAR BLUES: This is another one of my favorite breweries. I remember when they first hit my store in California and I was very skeptical. Back then I was anti-can, but we all make mistakes, now I realize cans are fantastic and so is Oscar Blues. They have a wide variety of styles and they do them all well.
NEW ARRIVALS
GREENHAT GIN: I will be purchasing one of these tonight! I tried it last weekend and my best friend and I both loved it. We had it straight but I am certain it will make a fantastic Gin and Tonic!
TIN CUP 1.75: Love Basil Hayden, try Tin Cup. A less expensive version that in my not very humble opinion tastes just as good!
BALVENIE 12 AND 15 SINGLE BARREL: These two excellent scotches from one of the best distilleries have been out of stock for such a long time, but they are back! We sold out of them back when we had our big Balvenie tasting and now they have finally returned!
GREEN AND YELLOW SPOT: We were fortunate enough to get another small shipment of the best Irish whisky available!
