Cinco De Mayo and Derby Day Booze News!
FRIDAY WINE 4:00-6:00
MIRABELLO PINOT GRIGIO: It is hot, it is lunchtime, you need something light and crisp, viola! The Italians have given us Pinot Grigio.
HUIA SAUVINGNON BLANC: It is hot, it is lunchtime, you want something with a little more zip to it than our little Italian friend, the Kiwi’s have given us lively, aromatic Sauvignon Blancs!
PALACIOS CAMINS DEL PRIORAT: It is hot, it is lunchtime, you don’t like white wine, but you don’t want something big and bombastic. Spain has you covered! They know how to make rustic reds, full of flavor without hitting you over the head.
DEPT 66 THE OTHERS RED BLEND: It is hot, it lunchtime, you don’t want anything subtle! You are having a steak fresh off the grill and you want a big full bodied red!
FRIDAY BEER OMB 4:00-6:00
Our friends from Charlotte have a strong philosophy and a dedication to their craft that I respect and admire. They make German styled beers and they do them as the Germans do. You can poop on them if you like, but they as much as anyone are responsible for the booming craft movement in Charlotte. I feel like they had a vision and they executed it, and have been quite successful doing so.
SATURDAY MUDDY RIVER 2:00-5:00
Our favorite local distillery returns with a brand new product! Peach! Just in time for Summer, Sangria, Cosmopolitans and more! Come and try it and some of their old favorites. If you still don’t know who they are and how awesome their stuff is, don’t beat yourself up, just come by. When I was in Asheville I was telling everyone about their stuff because as always my real motivation is the booze itself.

DEEP BLUE VODKA!
Every time a salesman brings me a new vodka, I start shaking my head because we have a WALL full of vodka, so I had no interest in this one either. Then I tried it!!! It is probably the smoothest vodka in the store, and then we found out the price!!! 30 bucks for a 1.75 of this Russian Vodka makes it one of the best buys in the entire store.
Many of you have been requesting that I bring in the lime and mango liqueurs from Patron, so here they are.
SMIRNOFF RED, WHITE, AND BERRY:
It is back! Last summers monster hit has returned for this summer. Go figure, Smirnoff finally makes a product I like and it is seasonal.
RECIPE OF THE WEEK: Courtesy of the folks at Woodford Reserve
Mint Julep Cocktail
3 ounces Woodford Reserve® Bourbon (or other more affordable bourbon 🙂 )
1 ounce Woodford Reserve® Mint Julep Simple Syrup
3 fresh mint leaves and mint sprig, for garnish
Crushed ice
Add bourbon, mint julep syrup and three mint leaves to a chilled mint julep cup or tall car glass. Gently bruise the mint leaves with the back of a spoon and stir. Fill the cup with plenty of crushed ice and garnish with fresh mint sprig and a straw!
