Charlotte’s Liquor Store News You Can Use!
Here comes the news you use for all of your booze you won’t want to lose from the Tom Cruise of liquor store management, Keith Haze:
Hey booze fans, as a Cubs fan this is normally the time of year where it feels like no sports are being played, but not this year! Even we are not able to hold off the Pirates and the Giants at least we are playing meaningful games in August! There are so many wonderful things happening in the booze world right now as well! I feel like I have something amazing for every person that walks in here. That is why I make that confused dog face when I see someone leaving empty handed. It feels like I have overlooked something, (or that you have) and I just want to talk about it for a second before you walk out of my store and maybe my life forever. I want to say do you realize we have the most amazing chocolate liqueur from Switzerland???? Or the best rum you have ever had in your life?!!! But mostly I just make that face a dog makes when you yell at it for trying to eat your steak. The dog is thinking if that steak were mine you would not be able to take it from me, so do not yell at me for respecting the steak more than you! I mean I love you!!!!
THREE OLIVES 4:00-6:30
We will be pouring the regular and three flavors of this tasty vodka from merry old England. I think that they do a good job with their flavors, balancing between fruity and not overly done.
FRIDAY 4:00-6:00
SOUTHERN HEMISPHERE (KIWI’S AND AUSSIES)
Kim Crawford Unoaked Chardonnay: I know, I know you like those big buttery Chards, but it is 98,000 degrees out there and you want a light clean chardonnay!
Trinity Hill Pinot Noir: New Zealand is quietly making some of the best Pinot Noir on Earth, without paying French or California prices.
Molly Dooker Two Left Feet: A Syrah blend from down under. Australia has become the biggest Syrah (shiraz) producer and for a good reason. The Syrah grape loves that kind of climate. Syrah remains the most underrated red grape for reasons that cannot be explained! Want a great BBQ red, look no further.
Molly Dooker The Boxer: This is an example of how the Syrah grape can be just as big of fruit bomb as the Zinfandel grape can. Let restraint fall by the wayside and jump into a big juicy glass of this luscious wine.
SATURDAY 3:45-6:45 LUNAZUL TEQUILA
Find out why this is our number one selling tequila! There is simply no reason to ever buy Cuervo again. This baby is cheaper and better! Stop buying Cuervo already. Find out what the rest of us already know that you should only be drinking 100% agave, not caramel colored, grain alcohol containing, goobedly gock! “But I like the taste” So what? Twinkies might taste good but that ^%$%$ is terrible for you and you are to old to be eating it.
KEITH’S CABINET (What Keith is drinking now)
Tequila Ocho: Great recommendation from a customer. Love everything about this silver tequila.
King’s Ginger: Still having fun with this amazing ginger liqueur!
51 Cacacha: Loving those Caipirinha’s!
Innis and Gunn: Still deeply smitten with this oak aged Scottish Ale
Edradour: Revisted both it and the Caledonia. Marry me!
St. George Botanivore with Fever Tree Elderflower. Because sometimes two great things combine to make another great thing.
New Arrivals
JIM BEAM APPLE: Did we need another apple? Nope. Is this one cheaper and better than Crown? Yes, yes it is!
EDRADOUR BALLECHIN 10: For those of you lucky enough to have snagged a Ballechin last year then you know how awesome this stuff is. This is the first release of the fully aged version and it promises to be a peat lovers dream with that sherry cask to counter balance some of the peat. Think of it as the “Highland Lagavulin”
Ron Pampero: Rejoice my Venezuelan friends and rum lovers everywhere. After a year long absence it is back!!! Tired of drinking Zaya and want something similar? This is your ticket!
Ron Medellin: Rejoice my Colombian friends! You do not have to just drink arguadiente anymore! Now we have two beautifully aged rums for you, a very reasonably priced 8yr and 12yr!
Ron Abuelo: Rejoice my Panamanian friends! Ron Abuelo is back! Unfortunately with the new distributor came a price increase but it is still one of the best rums ever, and we have added the wonderful and understated seven year old version.
Vizcaya: Rejoice my Dominican friends! THIS IS THE RUM YOU HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR! Goodness gracious what can I even say about this stuff except that is amazing. If you have been in the store and I have told you it is coming it is coming, well this is what I was talking about! Supply sadly is limited, we got three cases and I truly do not expect it to survive the weekend. I could go on a full page rant on this stuff but I will not because we all have other things to do.
AUGTOBERFEST?
That is right folks, the great, pumpkin beer, Oktoberfest race starts earlier each year, with us small stores battling Harris Teeter and the like for as much as we can get. One thing is for certain, there is never any in stock for Halloween! So grab your pumpkins and marzens now, because no matter how much they pump out each year it is never enough! Our “fall” display is up and ready, but I am not kidding when I say grab it now.
Grab up the savings as summer beers are 25% off! Check out our huge selection, but get in here FAST!
Recipe of the Week
This is probably my favorite non-Keith created recipe.
Anejo Highball (From master bartender Dale Degroff)
1.5 ounces of Anejo Rum (Brugal, Mt. Gay, Plantation 5, Hamilton)
.5 ounces of Orange Liqueur (Pierre Ferrand, Bauchant, Giffard, Grand Marnier)
2 oz of Ginger Beer (Fever Tree, Q, Fentimans)
dash of lime juice (nelly’s or a fresh lime)
2 dashes of bitters (Jack Rudy, Scrappys Aromatic, Angostura)
Build drink in Highball or Pint glass, garnish with Lime or Orange wedge.
