Best Liquor Store in Charlotte Brings Your the BOOZELETTER!!!
Keith Haze is bringing the best liquor selection and prices that anyone in North or South Carolina could ever want to the party zone known as the liquor department at Southern Spirits. On Fridays, the bearded wizard of whisky shares his wisdom.
“Hey there booze fans, finally a little relief in the weather and I did not waste a second busting out my whiskey stash! Scotch can be like an old friend who comes to town for a visit after you have not seen them in a while and you instantly remember why you were great friends and why you will always be so. Do not worry I have not abandoned Gin or Rum, there is room for all of my good friends in Keith’s cabinet. My mentor Dr. Gonzo said “Good people drink Good Beer” While the man loved his Wild Turkey (no one is perfect) I think that the type of person that drinks just to get drunk is really missing out on the beauty and art of it all, and cannot experience the joy of a shared cocktail, wine, beer etc. I pity them. People can call me a snob, it frequently happens, but a snob is someone who insists on drinking “only” a famous brand and nothing else. What I am is a particular and refined. Cheers!”
TASTINGS
PALMETTO WHISKEY AND DON Q FRIDAY 3:30-6:30
Hey have you guys heard of Palmetto whiskey from South Carolina??? If you missed the first fifty seven tastings, lucky for you, we are doing number 58!
SANCERRE: Sancerre is a region in France that grows some of the best Savingnon Blanc in the world! I love how light and clean they are but still having an intense acidity which makes them go great with cheese.
TREANA: An excellent blend perfect for a big steak, bbq, or a picnic. Paso Robles makes exciting fruit forward wines.
SAINT-ESTEPHE: Many of my favorite Bordeaux come from this region. Tired of big giant reds? Try a reserved an elegant red.
PEHUEN: Even though this grape was accidentally planted all over South America, it turned out to quite the happy accident as it has flourished in the climate and makes for a good medium body red with some excellent black pepper.
SATURDAY 2:00-5:00 Summer Drink Challenge
Stop by and taste the amazing Zaya, a Moscow Mule, and last weeks recipe, Caipirinha! Good times will follow.
KEITH’S CABINET What is Keith is drinking now?
Kings Ginger: We mixed this with Rum and fever Tree Ginger ale and created a super yummy ginger cocktail. On its own it is too strong but cut even with just the Ginger ale it was spectacular. I have a feeling this item could work well with other things, but mixing it with just rum did not work.
Taru Sake: What a lovely summer treat. This is what Sake should taste like, clean, dry, and elegant.
Kurosawa Sake: Even more crisp than the Taru, this has become my favorite!
St. George Botanivore: Loving this with the Fever Tree Elderflower tonic.
Lagunitas Maximus: When you want a lot of hops but you also want some malt for balance.
NEW ARRIVALS:
Copper Horse Chocolate Truffle: Is it the perfect time of year for this? Nope! However, this thing is local and delicious. Next time pass on the baileys and try this amazing cream. Another distillery out of South Carolina. Way better than Whisper Creek!
Copper Horse Pecan Praline: I thought this one was even better! This was born to be added to a White Russian or mixed with the Van Gogh Caramel. Sadly supply currently limited on this one.
Plantation Pineapple Rum: The most sought after Pineapple rum in the world is here! Only six bottles. This rum was created by adding fresh pineapple juice to dark rum. Soaking Pineapple rinds in white rum, and then blending it altogether. One reviewer said “YOU HAVE NO EXCUSE FOR NOT BUYING THIS” very strong words and also not true.
Four Square Port Aged Rum: I know that folks are going to be all over this. Nine years old, aged in port barrels, let me at it!!!
Quila Maria premade Margarita and Chocorita: I am not sure what happened to me, but now in back to back weeks I have very much enjoyed some pre-made cocktails. This one is made using Blue Head tequila (one of my favorites) and while the Margarita has less booze than I would prefer the Chocolate drink is definitely going to be part of my next Chocolate Martini. It was quite spectacular!
TEELING SINGLE MALT: That is right the Irish can make a single malt too. While the Scottish are starting to fiddle with grain whiskey’s the Irish are starting to make some Single Malts. It is a topsy turvy world!
DAMIANA: The other Mexican Liqueur. I brought this in by request and because I like having the coolest store in the Carolina’s. This can be had straight or used as a triple sec substitute. Made from the Damiana Herb which grows in Baja.
TEQUILA OCHO: Whenever I label anything the best, it seems like almost immediately a challenger comes along. Well for months now I have been having a debate about whether or not the Don Fulano or the Herencia were the best Silver’s ever, and then boom! Here comes the Ocho. It is a single estate Agave, that is smooth, complex, and sooooooo long. After my third sip I walked back into the back to check in the rest of the freight (yes I try things in the morning). When I finished I realized that tequila was still going and I needed to have more of it in my life. Now please stop sending me amazing Silvers, I do NOT like them.
HUDSON MANHATTAN RYE: For the longest time I gave this distillery a hard time because it was 45 for a pint! Well now both it and the Baby Bourbon come in 750ml bottles and much less than 90 a bottle! So hooray for New York, I can now recommend both of these very well made whiskeys.
Dark and Stormier
1oz of Rum (brugal, mt gay, Hamilton)
.5 oz of Kings Ginger (domaine canton, giffard)
4 oz of ginger beer (Fever Tree, Blenheims, Q)
Twist of lime or lime juice.

This amazing limited release is an american double / imperial IPA that boasts a 9.5% abv and is big, hoppy, with huge citrus and grapefruit resin. Seriously tastes like they opened the grapefruit and squeezed all the juice into this one. Tasty as hell!
