Located in San Diego, California, Ballast Point is a brewery truly ‘dedicated to the craft’. What began as a college kid seeking better beer than they have at keg parties, has transformed over the years in to a national company offering incomparable beer. In the early 90’s Jack White and his college roommate Pete A’Hearn began brewing beers in their apartment at UCLA. When they realized that obtaining the supplies and ingredients they needed to make craft beers was not an easy feat, they decided to open a store where fellow brewers could purchase supplies, ingredients and gather advice. Today, Home Brew Mart still operates in its original location and serves as a resource for brewers in the San Diego area.
In 2004, Ballast Point had outgrown their original brewing location in the backroom of Home Brew Mart, and moved into a larger brewery in Scripps Ranch. Ballast Point continues to brew around the clock here to keep up with the growing demand. In 2013, they added a third location including a tasting room and restaurant in San Diego’s Little Italy restaurant.
The founders of Ballast Point love to fish almost as much as they love to brew beer, which is why most of the beers are named for fish or fishing terms and the labels have fish on them.
