Best Booze News from the BEST Liquor Store Anywhere in Charlotte!
Rising from the mist, fluffing his mighty beard- the great and powerful Keith Haze is bringing all of the fascinating news of booze to you in our weekly BOOZELETTER!
“Hey there booze fans, the NFL has hit the ground running. Good job Panthers! The less said about my Bears the better. When I look at my Bears all I can think is, Go Cubbies! I am loving this weather, and would be content to keep it this way for a while longer. We are getting damn near whisky weather. I know for some of you whiskey weather is any kind of weather but for me the taste of whiskey is definitely better when it is cooler out. Coffee taste better in the morning and the whiskey tastes better at night. It is nice to be under the covers at night instead of kicking them off while suffocating at two a.m.”
TASTINGS!
FRIDAY 4:00 – 6:30 FORTY CREEK
As a lot of you know, Keith gives Canadian whiskey a hard time. However, John Hall at Forty Creek was as much in dismay about the state of his countries whiskey as Keith. Luckily for all of us, instead of making jokes like Keith, John built a distillery! Keith believes this whiskey to be Canada’s finest, even better than Crown Royal. Come and find out!
Wine Tasting 4:00-6:30
K Viognier: This is a grape that was very near extinction, but thankfully it survived and is now thriving. This expression is from Charles Smith out of Washington.
SELBACH OSTER KABINETT RIESLING: People do not realize that Riesling is one of the best food wines ever! It can pair well with light fare, all the way to a creamy chicken alfredo. A perfect picnic wine, or good at lunch due to its low alcohol level.
Vino Nobile Montepulciano: The forgotten wine of Italy. Italy makes more than just Chianti and Pinot Grigio! While this is also Sangiovese it it is blended with Canailo Nero and has its very own terroir. Consistently one of the better buys in Italy.
“R” Barbera: Speaking of Italian grapes, this one is very popular there but not very well known here. This California version demonstrates how big and fruity this wine can be.
SATURDAY 3:30-6:30 EDRADOUR, CLYNELISH, AND RON ABUELO!!!
Oh yeah baby!!!! Now this is a can’t miss tasting! We have tremendous Scotch lineup and a world class rum! People say “Keith what is your favorite drink? Well I don’t know the answer but if I said Edradour, I would not regret it one bit. Years ago when I went to Whiskey Fest, Edradour made my top 5 against some ridiculous competition! All of the other four bottles were at least twice its price. Any one of these bottles would be worth coming for on its own, but instead we have spoiled you with four winners! This is the payoff for the hard work that I do, and the awesome support you guys have given these wonderful brands. Read more about this tasting here.
KEITH’S CABINET: What Keith is drinking now
GRAN DUQUE D’ALBA XO: This was a bottle I had chased for a very long time, and it was worth it! So smooth, so long, so rich, and so full. Almost a dessert but not too sweet. Sip it, savor it, and cherish it! This is an amazing bottle that will blow away the Big Three’s XO!
Ron Medellin 12: I find this rum to be well worth the money. Dry, complex, and very reasonably priced. I am officially a fan of this distillery.
Glenfiddich 14: I was impressed with this special release. It has a lot more body and character than the Fiddich 12. The virgin oak gives it a nice creamy texture, but be forewarned this is not the super light and smooth Glenfiddich you are used to. This is a challenging whisky.
OLD FORRESTER 1897: This is a big rustic whiskey. Not sure if this is what Bourbon tasted like in 1897 but it has that feel to it.
Van Gogh Apple: I just love this vodka. It can do anything! The other day while I was sipping on it with some cranberry juice it was out there mowing my lawn. Did it do the best job? No it did a terrible job of mowing, but still!
NEW RELEASES:
TANTEO TEQUILA: This was a customer request. It is a Jalapeno infused tequila for those of us who love spicy drinks! Remember folks, if I can get the product I will bring it in for you, and if can’t I will at least try.
BLUEGRASS SUNDOWN: Another customer request! Keith is listening folks. This is a coffee and vanilla liqueur from the folks at Town Branch. You are supposed to use it to make a “Kentucky Coffee” with hot water, it, and cream. Many rave reviews from you guys.
TRIANON TEQUILA: Top shelf tequila in the coolest package ever! This bottle comes with the Blanco, Reposado, and Anejo, stacked lego style on top of each other. With just one purchase you have your own top shelf tequila bar!
PAUL BEAU VS AND VSOP: I rail against cognac sometimes because it is so dominated by the big three (Hennessy, Remy, and Courvoissier) that I have to root against it. Especially when there are so many brilliant brandy alternatives. However, the region is famous for a reason. Top Spirits critic Paul Pacault, put the VSOP (15 years old) in his top 50 spirits in the WORLD ranking. The VS is 6 years old compared to the 1-3 year old age of the big three. Looking forward to trying these.
GOLD RUSH
1.5 OZ OF BOURBON (OLD MEDLEY, EVAN WILLIAMS SINGLE BARREL)
.5 OZ OF GINGER LIQUEUR (KINGS GINGER, GIFFARD, CANTON)
.5 OZ OF LEMON JUICE
