Liquor Stores in Charlotte Can’t Touch Fort Mill’s Favorite, Southern Spirits!
Keith Haze, Mr. Charlotte Liquor himself, is giving us his views on booze in this week’s BOOZELETTER! He says, “Hey booze fans, today we officially kick off a new NFL season. This is the time of year when even Browns fans can dream of going 8-8. And even though the calendar keeps turning heading toward the autumn months, the Carolina weather continues to be very hot! Labor Day was a huge success! Thank you for all the positive feedback on the email about being open on Monday. I was blown away by how many of you wrote, called, and came in to say thanks. Our customers are the best!”
There is a little bit of bad news- there is a TITOS VODKA SHORTAGE!!! Right now, there is a Tito’s shortage on the 1.75 size and we are not sure when it will end. In the meantime, I highly recommend trying Dixie vodka, Deep Eddy vodka, Russian Standard vodka or Three Olives vodka. They are all good substitutes and it happens that they are all cheaper as well. We apologize for any inconvenience and we will have Tito’s back in stock soon. Our experts will be standing by to walk you through alternative choices in the meantime.
TASTINGS:
TEQUILA VS. MEZCAL! 3:30pm-6:30pm
A lot of people do not know the difference between the two and explaining it really is not as helpful as demonstrating it. They are VERY different in taste. For this taste test we are featuring the Siete Leguas Tequila, which is an outstanding tequila, and on the Mezcal side we have the Vida and the Chichicapa which is higher end single estate Mezcal. It is going to be very fun and very educational.
WINE TASTING 4pm-6pm
BAILEYANA CHARDONNAY: Low acid, big fruit, another well made Edna Valley Chardonnay.
ALMA NEGRA: A Malbec/Bonarda blend from Argentina. Wine Advocate gave it 90 pts. Another fun blend!
LEMELSON VINEYARDS PINOT NOIR: Martha and Ron love their Oregon Pinot’s, and guess what so does most of the United States. Certified Organic. Strawberry and spice, this wine is starting to show very well and will continue to do so.
SEGURA VIUDAS GRAN RESERVA: Well since the regular Cava is our number one selling wine, it would only make sense to go out and get the one above it! So that is what we did. Find out the difference yourself!
SATURDAY
12:00-3:00 KINKY LIQUEUR!
I try to keep it fair. We cannot pour dry drinks all the time. We have many customers that like it fruity. So here are the three Kinky flavors. They are easy because you can drink them straight or mix them.
KEITH’S CABINET: What Keith is drinking now.
Ron Medellin 12yr: Very happy with this rum from Colombia so far. Good quality and a good price. It is on the drier side, closer to a Barbancourt or Mt. Gay, than to a Zaya or Pampero.
Vizcaya! Still have some, still love everything about this gorgeous rum.
Plantation Pineapple Rum: Never thought I would like this but I do because it is *&^%$#%# great!
Morgan 12 clones Pinot Noir: These guys just make such great wine. Devoured this last night with a steak. That is right, a Pinot that can stand up to a steak!
St. George Spiced Pear: The ultimate all drink. Let it breath fresh air into our manhattan or just have it by itself.
Copper Horse Pecan Praline: This was my after dinner drink last night and it is simply fantastic. Local and delicious. Probably the best cream drink I have ever had.
NEW ARRIVALS AND EXCITING RETURNS:
PLANTATION PINEAPPLE RUM: This one was gone in 60 seconds last time and I expect it to fly again. I think it is an amazing spirit. It only comes out once a year.
OLD FORESTER 1897: This is part two of Old Foresters “Hey we used to make great bourbon” series. It has gotten pretty positive reviews, and since we are unlikely to get any Birthday Bourbon, this will have to be a substitute.
GLENFIDDICH 14: Brand new release from Mega distillery Glenfiddich, I like the fact it is 43% like a proper scotch. I like the fact that it was aged in both old and used oak. It is also reasonably priced for a special limited release.
HIGH WEST AMERICAN PRAIRIE: Do not freak out! This is their replacement for American Prairie Reserve. You can decide if it lives up to the name. When I tasted it, I was in a very emotional state from the news of the death of the reserve, and I had just tasted the amazing Bourye and almost anything would have suffered in comparison. So I will have to revisit.
GRAN DUQUE D ALBA GRAN RESERVA: Have you ever had a Spanish Brandy? Well if you have then you will already be excited at this arrival, and if you have not then you should fix this situation soon. This bottle will wipe the floor with Hennessy, Remy, Courvoisier, and Martel. A must have for any Brandy lover.
GRAN DUQUE D ALBA XO: I have been after this bottle since I set foot in this place. It is a well kept secret in the booze business that Spain makes some of the best Brandy in the world, the kind of Brandy that Cognac makers dream of!! The regular version is two weeks out, so for now we will just have to settle for one of the best bottles on the planet earth.
RECIPE OF THE WEEK
KING’S PINEAPPLE (created by Ron Frame and Keith Haze)
2 OZ OF PLANTATION PINEAPPLE RUM
1 OZ OF GINGER LIQUEUR (kings ginger, giffard, domaine de canton)
splash of lime juice
This version is basically like a pineapple manhattan, dry and complex. To turn it into a pool side drink add 2-4 oz of ginger ale and presto! The roomie and I were challenged to only have one of these last night!
