North & South Carolina’s Best Liquor Store News!
Keith Haze, bard of bards, bearded poet and sipper of spirits brings us all the news you need to know about booze with a touch of his usual “you kids stay off my porch” shenanigans…
“Hey booze fans, I am loving this weather. It is making my whiskey taste so much better. Which makes me happier when I write this letter. Not that I am drinking while typing! That is an ill advised practice that can end in 3:00am marriage proposals to estranged partners who should have already been deleted from your phone in the first place! Wow, I am already lost in the first paragraph. Fall, right it is fall, and fall is the season for brown! Pipe down Vodka drinkers, we get it, you hate brown because of that time at your 19th birthday party when you took five shots of Jack Daniels and vomited on your best friend’s parents’ sofa.”
TASTINGS
FRIDAY 3:30-6:30 RUSSIAN PLATINUM, TEMPLETON RYE, AND ZAYA RUM
A little something for everyone! Three great products. Russian Standard Platinum is a staff favorite. One of the best vodkas money can buy. Templeton Rye, despite the controversy remains a good product. A smooth easy drinking rye. Then there is my old friend Zaya, the best way to get hooked on sipping rum.
MANNEQUIN: Orin Swift (the Emeril Lagasse of wine) has a big white! A white that can stand next to a steak or a pork tenderloin.
TEXTBOOK CABERNET: Discovered this lovely wine back when I was in California. It is very well made, over delivers for its price, is a consistent winner! I think you all will really love it.
EARTHQUAKE ZIN: Speaking of big wines! This bad boy is perfect for tail gating. Yes you can bring wine to tail gaiting. This giant fruit bomb is fun to drink and a great example of why if you were stuck in Lodi again, you could find something good to drink!
LA MARCA PROSECCO: Something people do not know about Dr Haze. I love bubbly! I even like prosecco from time to time, and this is one of my favorites. It has a nice peach taste on the finish that makes it perfect for picnics, lunches, brunches, sparkling wine cocktails, or Italian themed parties. I like Godfather themed parties but I always get stuck playing Fredo! So then we switch to Goodfella’s and I am Spider? Cmon man, I was born to be a tall and fat Joe Pesci!
SATURDAY: 12:00-3:00 BERNHEIM WHISKEY, EVAN WILLIAMS SINGLE BARREL, AND PAMA LIQUEUR!
Two of our best whiskeys under thirty bucks! Proof that you can still find quality whiskey for under $30. Evan Single Barrel gets critical acclaim each year but remains one of the best priced, aged statement, single barrel items out there. Bernheim was the juice in last year’s Parker’s Heritage which was five times its price! Pama is the ultimate pomegranate liqueur and a wonderful mixer! Check out some incredible recipes for this one.
KEITH’S CABINET: What Keith is drinking now!
ST. GEORGE RASPBERRY: I love St. George and I love this liqueur! Not only is this stuff wonderful on its own, but it is the ultimate mixer. There is simply no reason to ever buy Chambord ever again because this stuff is sooooooo much better.
This one comes as a three pack with:
Silver: A very smooth and citrusy silver that ranks among the best in the store.
Reposado: Oh man this took the cake, I am deeply in love with this Reposado. It perfectly straddles the line between smooth and spicy. I am looking forward to revisiting this tonight!
Anejo: A lovely charred oak finish. Well made and robust. A nice change of pace from a lot of these super light Anejo’s. A whiskey lovers tequila for certain.
Vizcaya Rum: Still unbelievably awesome! That is all.
Gran Duque D Alba: This brandy is amazing. That is all.
DON Q PASSION FRUIT: We love Don Q here, so if you love passion fruit then you will almost certainly enjoy this rum.
Had to catch a breath this week, still tons of new stuff from the last few weeks. There are many new items on there way. We had two important returns this week though.
Peat lovers rejoice because the BALLECHIN AND THE LONGROW PEATED are back in stock! I highly recommend both of these!
RECIPE OF THE WEEK

1 oz St. George Raspberry (Chambord, Di Amore)
1 oz Francesca (Frangelico)
