We are excited to have Jeff Runquist Wines as our VIP tasting for August! Jeff Runquist began his adventure in the wine industry in 1977. At the time, Jeff was studying enology at UC Davis and was interning with Seagrams at their Paul Masson Sherry Cellars in Madera. After graduating in 1980, worked in the cellar at Montevina in Amador County’s Shenandoah Valley and was promoted to winemaker in 1982. Jeff then worked as the winemaker at the NapaValley Cooperative Winery from 1987 to 1990 then became the winemaker for J. Lohr winery in San Jose. During his time at J. Lohr, Jeff became certain that he would make wine for himself.
In 1997, Jeff released 700 cases of Zifandel under his one label. He then continued to produce wine at Sycamore Creek Winery in Morgan Hill, the McManis Family Vineyard in Ripon and the Massoni Ranch in Amador’s Shenandoah Valley until 2006 when he bought his own five acre walnut orchard in Amador County. In the spring of 2008, Jeff and his wife Margie opened their own tasting room with production facilities to follow.
Jeff prefers his wines to have zest and vibrant flavors. He said,
“We work very hard to produce balanced wines. Wines that will age and become more complex with time, but wines that can also be enjoyed in their youth.”

Jeff Runquist Wines does not grow any of the grapes they use to make their wines. Instead, they partner with growers
placed in the best location for the grapes they grow to ensure the best quality. This enables them to offer a wide variety of flavors and textures from throughout California. They are planning to crush twenty two different varieties from nine different appellations for the 2013 vintage. Most of Jeff Runquist Wines are made in small, limited batches.
