Booze News! It’s the Best Liquor Store in the Carolinas!
Keith Haze, the Pretty, Pretty Princess of Perfect Bottles in the Liquor Department has been very busy in his work this week. He has been gathering up the best prices and specials he can muster for the Charlotte area!
He says- Hey booze fans, it feels like this summer has been going on for a lonnnnng time due to the unrelenting heat, but it is winding down, and I want to squeeze in at least four more BBQ’s before it is all said and done. My best friend’s wife makes the best BBQ chicken and I would like some more please! I would love some more Willet products too but that seems unlikely. You guys burned through the Noah’s and the Johnny Drum, and the Rowan’s Creek will most likely not survive the weekend. American Prairie Reserve, may she rest in peace. But that is all okay because there is always something else to try.
TASTINGS:
FRIDAY 3:30-6:30 PALMETTO
Yes we have done this before, but we are really just trying to help a brother out. In this modern world of mega-corporations, and giant chains, there are not so many of us little guys left. We are just one business owned by one man, Don Podrebarac. We are trying to help out a fellow, local little guy. If not for the little folks, all we would have to drink is the stuff they sell at ABC store. Those big names you can find anywhere. The stuff they spend more on advertising than making.
WINE: FRIDAY 4:00-6:30
Glatzer Gruner Veltiner: Austria’s summer wine. A crisp and refreshing white that is affordable and perfect for picnics, BBQ’s, early evening dinners.
Demorgenzon “DMZ” Chardonnay. South Africa. Yes South Africa grows wine and a lot of it is quite good. Their reputation continues to grow in the wine community but mostly remains a secret for smart consumers to discover.
Sequioa Grove Cabernet: This cab is big but friendly. It has a full body but is very approachable. Drinks quite well now. Would be divine with a big steak, but has the complexity to be enjoyed on its own. Low on tannins and high on tannins, this is modern style cabernet that is ready to be enjoyed.
BV Rutherford Cabernet: This is a cab lovers cab. They have been at for as long as anyone in the United States, and they have a commitment to a particular style. Trends will come and go but BV will always make a textbook cabernet.
SATURDAY SELVAREY RUM 3:45-6:45
This is a very well made rum from Panama. It is Bruno Mars pet project and it is quite tasty. One of the better white rums you will find and there is also a chocolate one. Which would make a fantastic Chocolate Martini. So come by and try this tasty duo. I think you will be impressed.
KEITH’S CABINET: What Keith is drinking now.
Bloombury Gin: I tried the new release from Tanqueray and found it to be very well made. Super clean up front and then big juniper on the back. I think it would make a fantastic Gin and Tonic and a better than average Martini.
Hamilton’s Reserve Rum: Had quite a bit of fun with this rum last Saturday.
Brugal VX: Had quite a bit of fun with this rum as well!
Casa San Matias: This tequila is really almost too smooth. Silky goodness!
EDRADOUR BAROLO: I know everyone is going crazy with the Caledonia, as well they should, it is awesome! Do not forget about the Barolo aged Edradour. It is quite spectacular. It is a challenging whisky but the rewards are worth it.
NEW ARRIVALS
LAPHROAIG CAIRDEAS:
Attention Peat Lovers, this continues to be your year and your store. This 200th anniversary edition of Laphroaig promises to be a winner. In my experience anniversary bottle always tend to be amazing. After all, they had two hundred years to plan it! I will probably snag one of these myself if you guys do not gobble them all up. I always let the customers have the first go. People that run liquor stores and hoard items for themselves, are lame and I have little respect for them. Without customers there is no store. So you guys always get dibs on the goodies.
AMADOR DOUBLE BARREL BOURBON:
I love this trend of aging bourbon in wine barrels, so when I hear about this one I pursued it with great vigilance. Now it is here, and yours for the taking! Have not had a chance to try it, but I am very
excited.
SOUTHERN BOURBON WHISKEY: Special requested by multiple customers. I liked this bourbon when we tried it. It is from Georgia, it has a nice touch of sweetness but a big full body. As always I am happy to bring in items that you guys are looking for.
RECIPE OF THE WEEK
Post Prohibition Mai Tai
1. oz Amber Rum (Brugal, Mt. Gay)
1 oz dark rum (Hamilton, Meyers)
1 oz fresh lime juice (I use nellies)
1/2 oz of Orgeat (Giffard, Fee Brothers)
1/2 oz Orange liqueur (Pierre Ferrand, Bauchant, Cointreau)
Shake with and pour onto ice filled glass.
You can top with more dark rum (recommended!)
Best Mai Tai I ever had. I used the Brugal VX instead of the normal Brugal but I am sure the Anejo would work.
