Valentine’s Day Booze News!
TASTINGS WINE FRIDAY 4:00-6:00
WINES WE LIKE LIKE
VAN DUZER PINOT GRIS: While Oregon is famous for its reds they also make great white wine.
LES TOURELLES MARTIGNY: It is always exciting to try a white burgundy! While the Chardonnay grape is planted all over the earth, France still consistently does the best job with the grape.
CYPRUS PINOT NOIR: Russian river valley makes world famous Pinot Noir. It has both the right climate and an excellent tradition.
JL COTES-DU-RHONE: Back to France for perhaps the most famous blend in the world. A cotes du rhone is just one of those excellent all purpose reds.
FRIDAY BREAKSIDE BREWING!! 4:00-6:00
Summer has gotten this wonderful brewery into our store and now we are going to share these beers with you guys! We will also have Tall Guy and Mic Drop on the growler station for pints and growlers.
SATURDAY 2:00-5:00
This fantastic distillery from Denver, Colorado has been making its way to our shelves over the last few months and many of you have already tried some of their wonderful products. It was high time for a tasting. The lovely Valerie will be here to pour four of their expressions.
SMALL BATCH GIN – This is their flagship and it is an excellent Gin. The botanicals are layered like St. George so they achieve a much more balanced and subtle flavor.
NEW YORK APPLE WHISKEY: You can forget about all of that so called apple whiskey that is flavored with who knows what, this whiskey is made from real apples. No artificial coloring or flavoring. A real treat!
MICHIGAN TART CHERRY: Once again this is flavored with real Michigan cherries and not goobedly gock. This will help breathe new life into many classic cocktails.
AMERICAN ORANGE LIQUEUR: This lovely drink starts sweet and then has a bitter finish. I found this to be a delightful surprise and immediately mixed it with gin and found that to be a great combination. Replace Grand Marnier with it and get a new twist on your drinks!
KEITH’S CABINET: WHAT KEITH’S DRINKING NOW
REDEMPTION HIGH RYE BOURBON: Oh baby! This whiskey over delivers on price and quality. I have spent the week enjoying this on its own and in Manhattan’s! Stop chasing Buffalo’s and buy this beauty now!
EL DORADO 12: Yes it is the same bottle, and yes I can’t shut up about it. I just have this amazing secret and I have to share it with all of you guys!
FULL SPECTURM PECAN BROWN: What an exciting and delicious beer! Last night I had it with a lamb burger while watching The Original Star Trek and was a happy man!
BREAKSIDE BREWERY WANDERLUST IPA: I really enjoyed how balanced this beer is, and then it explodes with an excellent piney finish!
GLENFIDDICH IPA AGED SCOTCH: This no age statement whiskey is part of their new experimental program and my favorite critic enjoyed it quite a bit. He particularly liked the way the ipa came on at the close. I am all in favor of Glenfiddich doing anything to add flavor to their often too mild for me whiskey.
JOHNNIE WALKER TRIPLE GRAIN: While the rest of the world continues to play with every kind of whiskey there is, Scotland has pretty much stuck with malted barley. Johnnie walker is ready to buck this trend and try something new.
BUSHMILLS RED BUSH: Ireland not wanting to be left out has introduced their own new product, with very little marketing push so far, they haven’t even bothered to put it on their OWN website! I tried it and it is quite spicy.
GLENMORANGIE BACALTA: The last two Private Editions have not been nearly as well received as the previous. I thought the Milsean was well made but a bit overpowering, and the Tusail is tasty but not so accessible. This madeira aged scotch promises to be sort of a bounce back for this great distillery. Personally I think Madeira should be drunk more often by everyone and used more often by distilleries to age their whiskey.
