Fifth Year in a Row, Charlotte’s Favorite Liquor Store!
Hey there booze fans! Scotch Palooza has come again and I just don’t know what to do with myself!! I will be compiling notes on these scotches from you guys, so please send me your feedback. Yesterday a customer was kind enough to give a very detailed review of the Benrines, turns out its amazing! I feel like right now we are all climbing a ladder that has no last step. I get that everyone wants Blanton’s, Eagle Rare etc, but there absence is just no reason to throw in the towel! One of the best parts about shopping here, is that we are very ready to guide you to a wonderful new spirit. Who knows you might like it more than what you were after!! None of us came out of the womb drinking Buffalo Trace. “I like what I like, I am too old to change now, I don’t want to try something and not like it.” I have known the burn of getting home and hating a bottle I purchased. Sadly, I have been responsible for that happening to some people in my career. I hate that it when that happens but often times that one error will prevent me from ever making that mistake again. Even Michael Jordan missed shots! Right now some of you are thinking “But Keith you have already missed with me many times! So you are more like Shaq shooting free throws then Michael Jordan” and I apologize for those misses. Booze remains an art not a science, and I am not making excuses because I take great pride in being able to send people off with a fantastic bottle. Also, I am not one of those pompous jerks that thinks the problem lies with you and your non-sophisticated palette. I think that attitude is terrible and the people in my industry that feel that way should be punched in the face! I consider it my job to asses your palette and make an accurate recommendation no matter what level you are.
TASTINGS: FRIDAY WINE 4:00-6:00
RECUERDO: Torrontes- A lovely grape from Argentina that makes for a tasty and lively Summer wine.
MALVIRA ROERO ARNEIS: Another lesser known grape from Italy, a land with over 700 grapes! Just because we only drink four of them here, doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be trying more! This should be another crisp and floral summer wine.
TWO HANDS SHIRAZ: Australia destroyed their own wine market by flooding the world with overproduced, hastily made factory wines. However, some wineries have been doing it right the whole time, and those are the ones that have survived. Two Hands makes distinctive and tasty Shiraz that exemplifies the countries two best regions, Baross and McLaren Vale.
SATURDAY MUDDY RIVER 2:00-5:00
The wonderful folks from Muddy River are back and with any luck they will be bringing their fantastic Amaretto! Worst case scenario they just bring their four awesome rums! I will maintain that their spiced and coconut rums are the best of their kind anywhere! How many flavored rums can you drink without mixers and have a wonderful time doing so?
KEITH’S CABINET: What Keith is drinking now.
PLANTATION PINEAPPLE!!- I love this stuff so much! I keep trying different things with it and they all work!
FORD’S GIN, UNCLE VAL’S RESTORATIVE, GREEN HAT: Oh yes, the gin is…on, it’s in my glass, because the gin is on! Maybe then I would’ve like Glen Frey!
STRONACHIE 18: Still loving every drop of my birthday scotch. It is hard to nurse but I am trying to make it last!
NEW ARRIVALS:
SIGNATORY!!– Caol Ila, Highland Park, Glenlivet, Bunnahbain, Bunn Moine, Inchmurrin, Fettercairn, Blair Athol, Ledaig, Bruichladdich, Ben Rinnes, Edradour! It only took me five months but it was worth it!
DON FELIX TEQUILA – Another item I have been chasing for a lonnnng time, and last night I rewarded myself by purchasing the Reposado, and it is *&^%$# awesome! You want spice? You got it. You want smooth? You got it! You want length? You got it! Oh by the way my nickname for the Anejo is baby 1942! I bet the silver is good too.
PAPA PILAR: This rum was requested and after tasting it I know why. The Blonde is a smooth vanilla bomb, and the dark is dry and complex. I enjoyed them both.
DON Q 2005: You guys know that we love Don Q! Well this is their vintage release and we loved it. I like it even better than their Gran Imperial.
GOZIO AMARETTO: Since I have not been able to get the My Amaretto back, I had to find a replacement. If they Muddy River comes in, then I will have two replacements. This stuff is awesome.
SOTOL POR SIEMPRE: This has been HEAVILY requested, and I do not like to deny anyone, except for sales reps that want me to push bad products! It is not a Mezcal and it is not a Tequila. It is the Other indigenous spirit from Mexico and by all accounts it is a little smokey and quite tasty.
NARDINI GREEN LABEL: Grappa is in, so why not have a good one? One of the most famous distilleries in Italy. Enjoy a quality Grappa without breaking the bank.
POLI MIELE: What if you mixed Grappa with honey? Something incredibly wonderful happens!!! Sweet up front, but with a lovely resin finish.
GEORGE RASPBERRY AND PEAR BRANDY: I have been flirting with bringing these two items for so long, and finally a customer asked and now it is time! I could smell these all day, but be warned they are dry. What I like to do is to take the Raspberry brandy and put the Raspberry liqueur in it. This makes it amazing.
BEER NEWS: Hey folks, we got in another shipment of Maine Lunch and Maine beer 2! Very limited supply so do not delay!
RECIPE OF THE WEEK: Courtesy of Super Taster John Macqueen!
