Halloween Booze News From Southern Spirits
WINE FRIDAY 4:00-6:00
GLENELLY CHARDONNAY: I almost always prefer my Chardonnay to be unoaked. It forces the winemaker to make sure the grapes deliver fruit and balance.
BROOKS AMYCAS: This white blend from Oregon is very small production. In this country blends get a bad name for reasons that I cannot comprehend. Most of the best wines in the world are blends.
VINA ARDANZA: This Rioja is spectacular. It over performs at its price point and is a great reminder of how much lovely wine comes from Spain. This wine makes a great gift!
CA’DE CALLE: Another blend! This one is a malbec based blend from Argentina. I find that Malbecs frequently work best when blended.
THIRD ANNUAL HALLOWEEN COSTUME CONTEST 12:00-5:00
We are having another costume contest and the winner will get a 50 dollar gift certificate to Southern Spirits. Please let us know if you are wearing a costume, sometimes it is hard to tell 🙂
SATURDAY 3:30-5:30 BALVENIE TASTING AND LID ENGRAVING!
We will be tasting some delicious Balvenie and you can get the inside of the lid engraved.
We will be pouring the Balvenie 12 Double Wood and the Balvenie 14. These are two of my favorite scotches from a wonderful distillery. The 12 used to be a staple of mine when I used to repurchase bottles and the 14 was a wonderful Birthday gift from my best friend.
KEITH’S CABINET: What Keith has been drinking to survive the baseball playoffs.
SMOOTH AMBLER 7: This whiskey has been my good luck charm. I have gone out and watched some losses, but Smooth Ambler has been associated with the wins.
HIGH WEST SINGLE BARREL RYE: This gorgeous bottle has continued to impress me. I love the balance between the boldness and the balance.
RON CARTAVIO 12: This bottle was killed in last nights celebration. It served me well.
BIRDSONG PORTER: This beer has also been a good luck charm, and is also delicious.
NODA COCO LOCO: I have alternated this with the Birdsong, in my welcome to fall, lets go Cubbies jubilee.
LAPHROAIG CASK STRENGTH: Definitely not for everyone, but for those that love peat, it is quite special!
What a week it is has been!
AMRUT! What is Amrut you ask? Well it is single malt from India. If you are still in the “single malt can only come from Scotland”, I invite you to try a bottle of delicious humility, being wrong never tasted this good! I have been trying to get this in the store since day one! I almost cried when I carried the box to the shelf, and you better believe I bought a bottle. It had been eight years since I had drunk it and it tasted even better than I remembered.
LEOPOLD BROTHERS: Another distillery that I have been chasing hard. They make a lot of stuff so these items will be trickling in, but my first batch includes some of the best flavored whiskey and liqueurs in the world. Some have called them the St. George of Colorado, but I think they stand on their own.
OLD CAMP PEACH PECAN WHISKEY: This was requested by several customers, and I try to always get what is requested by you guys.
MONOPOLOWA GIN AND VODKA: How can you run a liquor store without Austrian gin and vodka? We can always use another potato vodka.
WHISPER CREEK PEANUT BUTTER CHOCOLATE AND WHISPER CREEK PUMPKIN SPICE: The folks over at Whisper Creek are pretty talented at making tasty creams, so imagine both of these are very good.
SPOTLIGHT OF THE WEEK:
NODA BODEGA has just moved to a bigger location, one that allows you to have a beer and actually eat your amazing sandwhich there. There is very little signage so you might drive right past it, but when you turn around and find it you will be quite happy!! How good can a sandwich be? Really, really good! Even better with a pint of
local beer. After you finish your amazing sandwich, go to a brewery, and then have some Smelly Cat Coffee. If you do this, then you are guaranteed to have a fantastic time. We all need to recognize that Noda is a lovely gift for all of us to enjoy.
RECIPE OF THE WEEK:
PUMPKIN MARTINI
This was a hit last year so lets dial it up again.
1.5 ounces of vanilla vodka (360, Skyy, Svedka)
1.5 ounces of Fultons Pumpkin Cream (baileys, whisper creek)
serve on the rocks, you can garnish with whip cream
