Labor Day Weekend Boozeletter!
Keith says, “Hey there booze fans, took a trip with my best friend out to Olde Hickory, which is in downtown Hickory and we had a blast. The beer is outstanding from top to bottom. These guys really know what they are doing and the passion is evident. We had an excellent bartender who was knowledgeable, friendly, and enthusiastic. The food was pretty tasty too! You can get tasting pours, pints, and take home bottles of the higher end line. I love to support local businesses but it makes it much more fun when that local business is awesome! Sitting there are the brewery drinking top shelf beer serves as a reminder of why I do what I do. The joy of finding something so special and tasty and being able to share it with a friend is such a rewarding and fulfilling experience. That is why we are always trying to turn you on to something new and exciting! We know that we are annoying but we also know how great the payoff is, so if you can forgive us, we just think it is worth it.”
TASTINGS
FRIDAY WINE 4:00-6:00
POPPY CHARDONNAY: A well priced Chardonnay from a great wine growing region, Santa Lucia California.
CONUNDRUM WHITE BLEND: This famous white blend from one of the first families of wine.
Elyse C’est Si Bon: A red blend from the Sierra Foothills. A rhone style blend, that is perfect for a big summer dinner!
BERINGER KNIGHTS VALLEY CABERNET: A higher level wine from one of the biggest wineries out there. The upside to these wineries is that they can often give you a nicer wine from their vast selection for a lower price.
BEER TASTING: 4:00-6:00
SCHOFFERHOFER GRAPEFRUIT BEER!
This is one of the most fun beers out there, especially for the summertime. Endlessly drinkable and ultra-refreshing. Of course my favorite thing to do with it is add either Gin or Tequila to it.
SATURDAY TEQUILA 4:00-7:00 and BLOODY MARY’S!
Some of you smart folks have already bought a bottle of the tequila hand selected by Don and myself and you guys now know how fantastic it is! We really want you to experience this fantastic tequila and experience something unique! It is such a friendly and enveloping tequila, that will cure you once and for all from your past tequila injuries! Just give it a sip and you will taste the magic!
CHARLESTON BLOODY MARY MIX! We love this mix and we will be mixing them up for you to help wash down your tequila!
SATURDAY HOT DOGS ARE BACK! 12:00-5:00
If you happen to buying your items from 12:00-5:00 have a hot dog on us! We are raising money for the Knights of Columbus.
You can stop by and buy a pint, have a hot dog, and enjoy being alive!

KEITH’S CABINET: What Keith is drinking now
Don and Keith’s tequila!: I feel proud when I sip this beautiful bottle. As much as I loved the Knob creek I chose, I am even more impressed with this! Maybe I am growing? (not as a person, unless you count my weight!).
BIG GIN: This tasty gin from Oregon has stood its own against the spectacular run of gins I have been drinking this summer.
FOUR ROSES YELLOW: What a value! This will make all of your bourbon cocktails, is perfect for weddings and parties, but can be had on its own as well.
OLDE HICKORY WAVELL GUNN: This is a scotch ale aged in Macallan barrels. The flavor is explosive! Take the Innis and Gunn and raise it to Eleven (a lot of people think Michael Mckean said that line but it was actually Christopher Guest).
OLDE HICKORY DREAD GODD: This is an imperial stout aged in Macallan barrels. This beer is what I like to call, controlled intensity. There is an explosion of flavors but they do not wear out their welcome.
OLDE HICKORY IRISH WALKER: An excellent barley wine from an excellent brewery. Not a style that is for everyone but that is okay. Styles that are for everyone are often equally unsatisfying for everyone as well.
NEW ARRIVALS:
CIROC MANGO: In Ciroc’s contuing efforts to make every flavor of Vodka that Van Gogh already makes comes another one of those flavors.
ROWAN’S CREEK: We got a small shipment. We are limiting two per person. We cannot do phone orders anymore because of the chip readers. So please stop by and grab yours, will most likely not survive the weekend. (please ask us, because they are not on the floor, we want you VIP’s to have first crack)
WILLET POT STILL: We got an even smaller shipment of this in. There is also a limit of two on this one. (the bottles are in the back we want Boozeletter readers to have first crack)
SPOTLIGHT OF THE WEEK:
DAVIDSON PUBLIC HOUSE: Want to have an incredibly tasty meal, and an excellent beer? Checkout Davidson Public House on Davidson in NoDa. Short Ribs with Kim chi are worth the trip alone, but since you are there get the Pork Belly sliders and the wings with drunk sauce. I hear they have an amazing burger but I ran out of room! Mention my name and get nothing free, except for a confused look. “Never heard of him, should I have?”
RECIPE OF THE WEEK:
KEITH’S CUCUMBER MARTINI
I specialize in easy and delicious cocktails and this is one of my favorites.
50 ml of cucumber vodka (prairie, iceberg, effen)
100ml of Fever Tree Elderflower tonic (regular tonic just will not work, but you can use tonic plus elderflower liqueur)
Garnish with mint
THE AFTER RANT:
There are a lot of people that think I am insane, they will say things like “calm down!, what is the big deal?, stop crying!”, and I always think “you calm down! I am perfectly calm or I am reasonably upset, but it is hard to convince them because most of them are the voices in my own head! I do get passionate about all kinds of things. However, a lot of people assume that I am a fascist and will reign hate and fury down on anyone buying anything less than a hundred dollars, adding ice, drinking something “fruity’ or “sweet”, but simply is not the case. In fact, it could not be further from the truth. I love finding bargains, I love making
cocktails, but most importantly I want you guys to leave with something that makes you happy. My cabinet as you might have noticed is full of all kinds of fun things from top to bottom. Also, Keith’s cabinet is one hundred percent real. I really buy these bottles and I really drink them. I do get mad about some things in this industry. I get mad that my distributors do not go a good job of ordering the things I love, I get mad that distilleries try to trick people with their labels, I get angry that people insist on having something that they have never even tried before when there are perfectly good if not better alternatives. But if you want to buy Grey Goose and put cranberry juice in it, and that makes you happy, that does not make my blood pressure rise one bit.
