Happy Father’s Day From Southern Spirits!
Hey there boozefans, it is time to get your Father’s day presents. The only time my father gets to drink good booze is when I buy it for him. Not because he is trapped under a rock, but because he doesn’t believe in spending money on himself. Something that my grandfather instilled in him and that he tried to pass down to me. I was very much the same way until the day I tried vintage champagne, and after that I knew that I could not live in a world where I never got to taste the finer things. Then one day I put on the bat suit and the world was never the same.
Every year we get lots of people coming and getting the same present for their husband or father as they got the year before etc. I really cannot comprehend this. The best gifts are always the ones that the person wouldn’t buy for themselves. They like Scotch? Get them the nicer version, get them a smaller distillery, get them a mezcal. This store is full of wonderful items that most people have never seen before. Don’t be scared because we have a lot of awesome tour guides that can help you find the perfect gift. Also, this should go without saying but booze makes the best gift! How many other gifts can be shared, can inspire, can transform, can elevate, and even transcend! Someone told me the other day that I have been drinking the Kool-Aid. Damn right I have! I work extremely hard to find all of the best stuff available and to be able to recommend with great accuracy the best items for each individual customer. I am the batman of booze after all!
TASTINGS WINE FRIDAY 4:00-6:00
RIEBEEK CELLARS SAUVINGNON: South Africa continues to make good wine that is ignored by most of the world. Luckily for you guys, Martha is paying attention!
WHISPERING ANGEL ROSE: Provence is where you want your Rose to come from. Rose continues to have a bad name in this country because of the glut of garbage that was passed off as Rose during the 80’s and 90’s. Rose is dry and flavorful, not sweet!
LES VIGNERONS: Cotes Du Rhone- A lovely French blend that is almost always a good deal. Excellent dinner or picnic wine.
LES AILES: The Languedoc is the land of hidden French treasures. When you want a French bargain that is the area to look for.
SATURDAY SIGNATORY SCOTCH TASTING 3:30-6:30
Here it is folks, the moment you have been waiting for! A Signatory Scotch tasting!
CAOL ILA 2008: Peat lovers rejoice! One of my favorite Islay distilleries in all its youthful glory. Sometimes youth is a plus!
INCHMURRIN 17: Very few people have ever heard of this distillery. It is produced my Loch Lormond, which I also have not heard of. The only thing I know is that they got one of the folks that made Bruichladdich to come and run their distillery. I am excited for this chance to explore the unknown!
GLENLIVET 19: Who else besides Signatory would bottle a scotch at 19 years of age? No one! Why did they do this? The answer is simple, they did it because they felt that was when the whiskey was ready. I hope you are excited to try this beautiful whiskey.
EDRADOUR SAUTERNES: Last but definitely not least! How do you improve some of the best whisky on the planet? Age it in French desert barrels! If Martin Scorese was a Scotch distillery he would probably be Edradour. Small, independent, and consistently producing a wide range of amazing stuff!
KEITH’S CABINET: What Keith is drinking now
JEWEL OF RUSSIA RED BERRY: Still an amazing summer drink!
PLANTATION PINEAPPLE: Still an amazing summer drink! I have not put the two together but maybe I should!
G VINE: Really enjoying this gin, in both Martini’s and Gin and Tonics.
DIPLOMATICO 2002: I had been waiting for this rum for a verrrry long time. It finally arrived and it has delivered. You can drink this straight and have a wonderful time, but when I put a splash of water in it, it exploded into something truly special. Try it both ways.
LINKWOOD 17: One of my favorite distilleries but one of the hardest to come by, this just arrived five seconds ago, but I tasted this one with my best friend last week and it is outstanding!
FETTERCAIRN 19: We sold out of the other Fettercairn in a heartbeat so I went out and grabbed this one. I loved this! Another great fathers day gift, and now against all odds we have two amazing 19 year old scotches!
RON CARTAVIO SOLERA: Solera, is a genius method, in which the old juice is blended with the young. The effect of this process is to give you the vibrancy of youth and the smoothness of the aged.
RON CARTAVIO XO: This award winning rum is a must try for rum lovers. It will make a worthy addition to any rum bar.
JOHN L SULLIVAN IRISH BOURBON: What the hell is an Irish Bourbon? Well according to the US Government it is illegal! They will be forced to change the label soon enough. In terms of drinking it is just what it sounds like. A blend of Irish and Bourbon and the creation of something new and amazing! Supplies limited.
JOHN L SULLIVAN 10YEAR: Want to try a new Irish that is traditional and excellent? Good, I knew you did! Tasted this yesterday, it is quite tasty.
