Thanksgiving Booze News
Gobble, gobble! It’s TURKEY TIME in Charlotte and folks are preparing for terrific food, football and FANTASTIC COCKTAILS! Keith has all the BOOZE NEWS for you and will be waiting at Southern Spirits to help you pick the perfect bottle for your holiday fun!
Hey booze fans, it is here, the Holidays are upon us, there is just no denying it now! We have figured out the best way to start this season and that is with two spectacular tastings!!! I am always happy when we can have one, but now we have two!!! How about them Panthers? Cam Newton for MVP!! Ron Rivera was on my beloved 85 Bears (best team ever), and not only did he learn from Iron Mike, but he knows how to keep the team focused on each game. Often times people are surprised that I am a sports fan because I am a nerd. There is no reason nerds cannot enjoy sports, there are tons fun nerd things going on in there. Strategy, statistics, but that is not what I love about it. I love the passion. When a flu ridden Michael Jordan can dominate a game against the best, that is something to see. Sorry, back to booze.
TASTINGS
FRIDAY 3:30pm-6:30pm DICTADOR RUM TASTING
I have been after this rum for a long time and we are proud to launch it in this state! This tasty winner from Colombia will help redefine your thoughts and feelings on rum. We will be pouring the 12, the 20, and the XO, and I could not be happier about it!
WINE TASTING from 4:00pm-6:00pm
KUNETZ-BAS ALSACE: This fantastic little blend is such a great value! Huge fan, stop drinking boring Chardonnays or even worse Pinot Grigio and try a delightful white with character.
Evesham Wood Pinot Noir: Martha loves Oregon Pinot! I always recommend Pinot for Thanksgiving because it is turkey friendly.
Terra Valentine Cabernet: California is the King Of Cab, and the Napa is the King of California (Santa Cruz is my favorite, but those hippies do not know how to distribute).
PIERRE MONCUIT: How about some Blanc de Blanc Champagne?? Yes please. 100% Chardonnay, stainless steel tank fermented from some old vines. Oh hell yes! Be a good guest and bring some kick ass bubbly to your party, or just drink some because why not? You are alive after all.
SATURDAY: 3:30-6:30 HIGHLAND PARK SCOTCH
Highland Park 12: The flagship. One of the best buys in Scotch. Highland Park is not from the Highlands but is instead from the Orkney Islands. It does have some smokey notes on the back end, that add a delightful finish to a whisky that begins a little sweet.
Highland Park 15: A little older, but more complex. There are plenty of detectable differences here and you will enjoy finding them.
Highland Park Dark Origins: This was aged in a sherry cask, making it a marriage between the dry and the fruity. Despite being irritated by the all black bottle (cannot see the level) I enjoyed this bottle quite a bit.
Highland Park 18: I consider this whisky to be perfect. If she were a woman I would ask her to marry me and she would turn me down. This is a reason to get up in the morning and in my opinion it destroys the Macallan 18!
KEITH’S CABINET: What Keith is drinking now?
Innis and Gunn: My return to this beer has left me just as impressed as I was before. It is amazing.
Dos Maderas 5 + 5 Rum: Yes, oh yes, big fan here. While the 5 + 3 is more subtle and sophisticated, I enjoyed the big sherry bomb, so full and rich!
Glenrothes Signatory: Lean, long, and splendid. This is a complex whisky from a great company.
Glendronach Tawny: I found my bottle and reintroduced it to myself, and boy was I happy I did! Man this stuff is so good. Why don’t more scotches use interesting casks?
Andrew Will: These great wines from Washington are too good to pass up. Stop buying over hyped Napa brands and get some awesome wine.
Whistle Pig Old World: Summer was kind enough to pour me some of this awesome stuff. Yes it is pricey but you can also “taste” the money.
NEW ARRIVALS
Harley Bannister Scotch: Another affordable blended scotch with a cool name. “Hello my name is Harley Bannister, I am here to disarm the nuclear bomb and ask for your daughters hand in marriage”
Jack Masters Gift Pack: Did you miss the first and second editions? Do you have any idea what I am talking about? Have no fear now you can get all three in just one pack.
Jameson Trilogy: Great Christmas or anytime gift, it is a fun three pack of the regular, caskmates, and black.
Wyborowa Polish Wodka: Our owner Don, never stops searching for the best deals and buys, and he has found one that he is super stoked about. This is a well made rye vodka for a whole lot less than Belvedere!
PAPPY NEWS: Okay so the sign up has started. Let us review again the rules. Only one person can collect a bottle. So fill out a form for who will actually be there. If Bob Davis will be there for Joan Crawford, then Bob Davis fills out just one form. Bob Davis does not have two forms, one for Bob and one for Joan. So when I call a name and you come up, you will present your id and it will match the name of the ticket. So once again if you are a proxy, you will be there waiting for one name to be called, and it will be the name on the ticket. There will not be under any circumstances one person with two bottles!
