October Booze News from Charlotte’s Best Beer, Wine & Liquor Store
Traveler and fan of baseball, Keith Haze, is bringing the thunder in today’s BOOZELETTER!
“Cubs win cubs win!!!!” Sad that Harry Carrey was not around to see this team! I hope that Will Ferrel will make an SNL appearance if/when my cubbies advance to the World Series but the dreaded Cardinals (Midwest Yankees) await them. I will be going on vacation next week, back to California. Luckily for all of us my staff and colleagues are fantastic so you will still get top shelf customer service! I am very excited about your inventory right now and even more excited about the things that are still to come. The day I took over this department my main goal was to make this department a destination. A place where you kind find whatever you were looking for plus more. Staffed with people that cared about the items and you! Where it mattered what you put in your cocktails, served at your weddings, or just drank for fun. We have reached that goal in large part due to your support of my enthusiasm. You guys have tried new things and created the kind of atmosphere I hoped for. Lets keep marching and finding the best stuff all over the planet!
TASTINGS:
FRIDAY 10/9 3:30-6:30 ST. GEORGE TASTING WITH LINDY
I love both Lindy and St. George and am always delighted when they appear. This time around we will be tasting the unsung lineup. Four wonderful items that you might walk by a hundred times without buying, but are in fact amazing.
CITRUS VODKA: They use real fruit folks, you can feel the orange in the texture of the vodka. This will elevate any citrus cocktail you make.
TERROIR GIN: The one that drinks like a forest. I am constantly impressed by how wonderful this gin is. Nothing else like it. I think it makes the best Martini’s but it also makes excellent gin and tonics.
SPICED PEAR: Well this stuff is just fall in a bottle. You can drink it straight or add it to a wide array of cocktails. I like to put a splash in my Manhattans.
NOLA: The best coffee liqueur in the world! Sooooo much better than Kahlua, Patron XO, or anything else out there. Will make an amazing White or Black Russian.
WINE TASTING: FRIDAY 4-6
KUNG FU RIESLING: I have said it once and I will say it again, Riesling remains terribly underrated, because when you were a kid you had blue nun, or woodbridge, but there is a whole world of amazing Rieslings out there.
MASCIARELLI: Italy makes a whole lot more wine than Chianti and Pinot Grigio. They have over 700 varietals of wine, most of which do not make it over here. They are also the masters at affordable food wines.
SANTA EMA MERLOT: Merlot much like Riesling has gotten a bad rap because of the sheer volume of terrible Merlot, but trust me there are plenty of amazing ones out there.
RUSTENBERG: South Africa continues to make great wines that no one has ever heard of. Trapped at the bottom of the earth they toil in obscurity, but when you buy from there you are paying for what is in the bottle. Martha is in love with this bourdeaux blend and you probably will be too!
SATURDAY 4-7 ICEBERG VODKA AND CHARLESTON BLOODY MARY MIX TASTING!!!
We are proud to help launch another awesome vodka. This one is from Canada and made from real icebergs! It is corn based like Tito’s and Dixie which means it is Gluten Free. We love it and we think you are going to love it too! Extremely smooth. Plus their Cucumber vodka is THE best cucumber I have had yet. Charleston Bloody Mary Mix is our favorite bloody mary mixer. It is local and spicy! Come and try a top shelf bloody mary.
BEER NEWS!: We are tapping two awesome new IPA’s at 5:00. The first is from Alpine and it is called Duet. The second is from Holy City and it is called Yeast Wrangler. Come by and get a growler or a pint, or both!
KEITH’S CABINET: What Keith is drinking now.
Vizcaya rum: What can I say? It is good beyond words. If you still have not tried it, what are you waiting for???? You do not need ice, you do not need water, all you need is a glass.
BENROMACH PEATED: It is that time of year, when the smokey scotches come out of my cabinet. We have a great price on this but it will not last. This is the best buy in peat right now.
VAN GOGH APPLE: Such a fun mixer, it pairs with anything! If Van Gogh Apple was a person they would be
COPPER HORSE PECAN PRALINE: This just continues to impress.
Woodford Manhattans: I do not do much revisiting but exceptions must be made. This was my drink of choice over the weekend and it suited that rainy weather and me just fine.
FLIGHT 69: How can anyone pass on this awesome sale of this delicious gin!?!
NEW ARRIVALS:
ICEBERG VODKA: This is a smooth and affordable premium vodka. The plain will make any drink you need and the cucumber, tastes like it has freshly chopped cucumbers in each pour!
PENASCO TEQUILA: We are always out there hunting for not only the best products but the best deals and sometimes they are one and the same. This is a very well made tequila for a very reasonable price. Take advantage while we have it in stock.
JACK DANIELS #3: Part three of Jacks’ trip down memory lane, wherein they revisit past Master Distillers recipe’s. I really like this idea, and am enjoying these throwback whiskeys. I find that the big names have all shifted into “soft” styles that can be enjoyed by more people but lack character.
