Liquor Store News from Charlotte’s Best
Hurricane Keith is coming through with all the booze and liquor from the best liquor store anywhere in the Charlotte area!
He says, “Hey there booze fans, I hope you are all doing well. I certainly am, I am almost overwhelmed by all of the wonderful options here at Southern Spirits, and while that may sound like rah rah drivel, it is a fact! I literally have a hard time figuring out what to try next. You can walk into a “regular” liquor store and shrug your shoulders and buy the usual, but here even if you walk quickly to avoid me (you know who you are) there are awesome bottles just whizzing buy, calling your name, saying “wait, check me out, get a load of what I have going on over here” I know you have found your one true favorite, but there are wonderful people out there making all kinds of new and amazing booze. Yes there was that time you tried something new and it burned your throat, your eyes watered, and you broke out in strange red spots, but you lived to tell the tale so lets double down and find the next awesome thing! My P.R. adviser informed me that I have been discussing the weather too much and sound like an old man. Dr. Gonzo never discussed the weather, so she is probably right.” (She’s always right!)
TASTINGS
WINE FRIDAY 4:00pm-6:00pm
Merry Edwards Sauvignon Blanc: Well known in the wine community as one of the best.
Tilia Malbec: France gave up on this grape, but Argentina has made a gold mine off of it. The largest reason being that it is a very friendly red, not to big and not too light.
Garnacha Centenaria: Looking for a great fall red? Look no further than Spain, a country that makes wonderful mid range wines.
D66: Hey look its another Orin Swift sighting! I told you
SATURDAY STARR AFRICA RUM 3:30-6:30
A brand new rum from Africa. It is truly a beautiful bottle, and the sales lady has assured me that you guys will love it! Very smooth for a clear rum, probably makes a great Mojito or Daiquiri. Stop by and give her a whirl.
KEITH’S CABINET: What Keith is drinking now
PAUL BEAU VSOP: What a wonderful cognac this is! Long, delicate, and complex. Whenever you wonder why a region is so famous, all you have to do is find the right bottle to remind you. This bottle is outstanding.
TRIANON TEQUILA: Still having a wonderful time with my tequila legos. The Anejo continues to grow on me but the Reposado remains my favorite.
GLEN GRANT 10: I have already given a lot of you a heads up on this great stuff, but if not I apologize. One of the best buys in Scotch.
St. George Raspberry: I had this with some cheesecake the other night and truly felt a feeling of bliss that lasted sometime before the shame of eating cheesecake washed over me.
TINCUP Whiskey: Revisited TinCup the other night, man that stuff is smooooooth. That is why we call it the express train. Basil Hayden buyers, save your money and get this instead.
NEW ARRIVALS:
BALLECHIN SAUTERNE: This made a brief appearance last Christmas but now it is back. They found some for me and when this is gone it will be gone forever. It is what I call “the sweetie peaty” because it is heavily peated but then aged in a desert barrel. A one of kind scotch that is challenging and fun.
DOS MADERAS: What happens when you take rum from Barbados and Guyana and then age them in Sherry casks? Something *&^%! Scotch has been hogging all the Sherry casks for years but now Rum is getting in on the action, and why not? Sherry adds so many excellent properties!
Denizen Rhum: Another delightful rum, in both the white and aged variety. My mission to make this the best rum store on the planet is nearing completion.
Teeling Single Grain: My efforts to turn our Irish section from sad to interesting is improving all the time. This is another winner.
AWESOME DEALS!!!!!!
We are always on the lookout for the best deals on the planet and well folks we sure found some. There are more than I will even list, but just ask us for extra details.
FLIGHT 69 GIN 2 FOR $30!: That is basically buy one get one free from one of my favorite gins. It is gluten free, it can make a great Gin and Tonic, an awesome Gimlet, or an above average Martini.
CHARRED OAK AND RYE: Does anyone miss red state and blue state as much as me???? Well here is an awesome substitute! Well made whiskeys for a wonderful price.
SIGNATORY LAPHROAIG: It is back and this time it is in cask strength form. Single barrel, cask strength Laphroaig. Wonderful packaging and a peat lovers dream.
SIGNATORY GLEN GRANT: How about a small batch 18 year old Glen Grant? All of you smart folks that have been enjoying the ten year will be very happy at the quality and price of this baby!
SUPER SCOTCH DEALS: These are some super limited, premium scotches for amazing prices. Please see me, Keith for details.
Apparently while preparing for the end of the world everyone stopped by to buy booze! I am not complaining but it made writing the boozeletter harder. If you see me floating down the street, do not panic, my body is quite a flotation device.
