Charlotte’s Best Liquor Store News
He is one man, but he is a bearded wizard of liquor. We call him Keith Haze. Here’s what he is laying down for us this week in the magical, mystical land that we like to call Charlotte’s Best Liquor Department.
Hey Booze fans, this heat is as relentless as I am. Maybe more so, I am not sure if the heat passes out mid drink on friends couches? I used to be able to say that I never spilled a drop but…I cannot say that anymore. Luckily we are armed to the teeth with refreshing beverages here that are guaranteed to prevent sun stroke, or at the very least have you smiling before and during your collapse.
I know a lot of you do not drink Gin, and well during the Summer we feel sorry for you. A little. It is never too late to start! Imagine if you were in the movie Groundhog Day. At what point would you finally stop ordering Vodka? Wouldn’t you eventually be like, I should probably try everything at the bar since I will be doing this FOREVER! (If you have not seen the movie Groundhog Day you should correct this problem immediately!) The point is, we are not trapped in an endless day, but we should still be exploring anyway, and you have some great guides (me me oh pick me) to help you discover new stuff. Also, I have an excellent affordable (under 50) Scotch recommendation. Ask me about it, you will be very pleased.
TASTINGS
FRIDAY 3:30pm-6:30pm CASA NOBLE
It is time to taste Keith’s favorite Tequila again! if you missed it before here is your chance. If you have already have it then you might as well come and revisit, because yes it really was that fantastic. Aged in white oak barrels this tequila is elegant and complex. It can erase all kinds of bad tequila nightmares with just two sips. First sip, your brain tells you “hey this is not gross!” Second sip you can enjoy.
SATURDAY 2pm-5pm PALMETTO WHISKEY AND SHINE
We are happy to launch South Carolina’s own Palmetto whiskey. We are always trying to support local distilleries and companies, so we thought this was a great opportunity to do so. Whiskey is now being made all over the U.S. so why not South Carolina! Defiant, from North Carolina, has done very well here and I think this whiskey stacks up pretty well to it. So come and try it and some moonshine this Saturday.
NEW ARRIVALS
POWERS SINGLE POT STILL: Powers is one of those whiskey’s that has been around, that a lot of people respect, but still flies under the radar. This special release is basically their version of Red Breast (an awesome Irish whiskey). I am loving the Irish whiskey comeback and I know that it is just getting started.
FLOR DE CANA 5YR: The 4 yr has been discontinued so here comes the 5yr instead. This is an excellent distillery and this will be a good choice for a dark and stormy or many other dark rum drinks.
BATAVIA ARRACK: A hundred years ago, people use to make punches, and this is what they used. From Indonesia, to Amsterdam, and finally produced in Austria. Fun stuff to be sure. It is a wonderful time to be alive.
CASAMIGOS REPOSADO: GEORGE CLOONEY’S tequila has been slowly making its way into the store based on your guys demand. Well here is the reposado, which was specifically requested.
WHISTLE PIG OLD WORLD: This is a pretty exciting limited release. This 12 year old rye has been aged in Madeira, Sauterne, and Port barrels. The color is terrific. I expect this to be a pretty awesome whiskey.
BITTER TRUTH BITTERS: My bitters section was missing two important ingredients, cucumber and lemon. Now we have both! I will be playing around with these soon enough I am sure.
BLOOD OATH BOURBON: This is another limited release bourbon. It is going to be part of a series. Each one will be a different blend from “top notch” distilleries.
BOURBONPALOOZA: THE RETURN OF MANY HARD TO GET SKU’S
BUFFALO TRACE, BLANTON’S, EAGLE RARE, AND OLD MEDLEY 12 are for the moment in stock! There will be a ONE PER PERSON LIMIT, on all of these as they have become very rare. Please do not cry if you miss them, there is just too much good whiskey out there for that. If I get one more call for Blanton’s (which I do love) I might vomit all over myself. In our lives, if we are lucky we find one man or woman to love for most of our lives, in booze we are all lucky because we can dance with many partners and no one gets upset. “So if you can’t be with the one you love, then love the one you are with!”
Keith’s Cabinet: What Keith is drinking now.
St. George Reposado Dry Rye Gin: What a fascinating spirit. It tastes more like a wine aged whiskey than a gin, and yet the gin taste is still living inside of their. I have not had a chance to fully explore this yet.
High West Am. Prairie: This is the weekend we say goodbye to my darling from Utah. You were a dear friend and though I do and will love others, I will miss you. We either said goodbye last night or I might snag one last bottle so that our love affair can continue.
LAGUNITAS SUCKS: I truly enjoy this citrusy IPA from one of my favorite breweries.
Flight 69 Gin: I have been enjoying my revisiting of this gin from California. So clean and agreeable.
Herencia Blanco: Still love this tequila from start to finish.
Innis and Gunn: This beer is still rocking my world!
Pink Lemonade
2 oz of Deep Eddy Ruby (Shady Fruit)
4 oz of Limonata San Pelligrino
This might have been the first recipe I published, but last night I made one and I knew that very moment it would have to be this weeks recipe. So simple so tasty!!
