It’s Your Weekly Liquor News, Charlotte!
Here comes the brave, wise words of the bearded Yoda, Keith!
Hey booze fans! Will this heat wave ever end? Is there enough Gin in the world to combat it? Will the Police understand if I start making the on the side of the road when my car overheats? “Officer this was my only hope for survival, don’t worry I am a doctor of booze” I hope all of you dad’s out there enjoyed your Father’s day gifts, I know a lot of awesome stuff went out of here last week! I still have a few goodies left. I just got in two more cases of Makers Mark Cask Strength 750, I have one Orphan Barrel Rhetoric left, I have a few of the Stranahans Black Diamond, about 7 bottles of the Michters Cask Strength Rye, and I have TWO bottles of Yellow Spot!
TASTINGS:
FRIDAY JUNE 26TH SIETE LEGUAS 3:30-6:30
The house that built Patron. Patron was born at the Siete Leguas distillery before it was sold and opened up its own giant factory. Meanwhile these folks continue to make awesome tequila the right way. Still family owned, this how tequila should taste. Each type has both a signature but is a good representation of its style. Any bar that stocks this tequila gets an immediate thumbs up from me. Siete Leguas was named after Pancho Villa’s horse. This is our owner’s favorite. So if you do not know what to get Don for Christmas, now you do!
SATURDAY 3:45-6:45 VINIQ, New Amsterdam Mango, and EJ Peach
We have a bunch of fruity ones for you. Tired of all of these dry gins, tequila’s, and scotches???? (me neither) Well here you go! Sweet, fruity, and sweet! Summer time sweety fruity drinks for the pool, and bbq’s and inducing diabetic comas.
BEER NEWS: Too many new beers to discuss! Shelton brothers, Evil Twin oh my! You know Summer always brings in the coolest beers. I love walking over there and discovering all the new and fun stuff.
Keith’s Cabinet: What Keith is drinking now.
There are still quite a few comments about how many items are on this list and do I actually drink all of these things, and should I be checked into a hospital. I do drink all of these items but often in a very small quantity. For example, I had an ounce of the Ron Atlantico, and an ounce of the Bourye. I probably had two dark and stormies, three martini’s, and about six beers. Is that a lot? If so then lower the amount until you find it to be appropriate, if the answer is zero you are reading the wrong newsletter.
Innis and Gunn! I love this beer so very much.
Oscar Blues Variety Pack: I love cans, I love Oscar Blues, and I love Variety Packs!
Millers Gin: The best Martini ever! So clean, so crisp, such an adult beverage, not for the sweety fruity crowd.
Brugal Anejo: For all of those lovely Rum drinks I make.
Ron Atlantico: One of the best sipping rums, good for any occasion.
High West Bourye: A reminder of how complex an American whiskey can be.
Keith’s Summer Drinks
Cucumber Vodka and Elderflower Tonic: The most refreshing drink on this list, and I do not even love cucumber.
Pimm’s Cup: Simple and easy. Just add ginger ale, but if you want to be adventurous throw fresh fruit, sparkling wine, and some Bertina in there.
Gin and Tonic: So easy, so refreshing, BUT! So many ways to make it more complex, but the best way is by adding Bertina Elderflower, or using Fever Tree Elderflower Tonic. Yes Tonic choice matters, it is 2/3 of the drink! Schewppes is salty filth!
Peartini: Absolut Pear and Sipp sparkling Pear(we sell this on the beer side). This was my favorite discovery of the year, the only thing I like better than simple, is someone else making a good drink for me.
Top Shelf Long Island Ice Tea: Tried this on Monday, be careful! The general rule on this drink is to get swill, but swill is swill. Get decent stuff and you will have a much better drink and that is especially true with the Gin.
Sloe Gin Fizz: Tart and Refreshing! I recommend using Agave nectar instead of simple syrup for this drink and all others. This is another one where using quality Sloe Gin makes an ENORMOUS difference.
Bourbon and Ginger: This one I drink year round but when the sun goes down and I need my whiskey to be refreshing! There can be only one!! To take it to the next level add three drops of bitters and garnish with lime or orange. I like the Medley Brothers for this drink at the moment.
Deep Eddy Grapefruit and Tonic: Once again, so easy, but so refreshing. Feel free to use the new Shady Fruit Grapefruit, I have, and it is a great substitute.
