Host The Best Queen’s Cup Tailgate!

This year marks the 20th Anniversary of the Queen’s Cup Steeplechase! The race will be held on Saturday, April 25th and gates will open at 10 AM! The morning will be filled with Jack Russell Terrier races and pony rides for the kids. After the last horse race in the afternoon, the 20th Annual Hot Walk Party will commence with Liquid Pleasure Band as the entertainment! The Queen’s Cup will be held at 6103 Waxhaw Hwy and will call will close promptly at 1:30 PM so be sure to pickup your tickets before then! With the event just a couple weeks away, it is time to start thinking about what you’ll need to host the perfect tailgate!
We’ve put together a couple of simple cocktail recipes that are sure to be a hit!
Mint Julep
1 teaspoon Powdered sugar
2 oz. Bourbon whiskey
2 teaspoons Water
4 Mint leaves
In a highball glass gently muddle the mint, sugar and water. Fill the glass with cracked ice, add Bourbon and stir well until the glass is well frosted. Garnish with a mint sprig
Simple Sangria
1 bottle red Spanish wine
1 cup fresh orange juice
1/2 pineapple, chopped (roughly 1 cup)
1 orange, sliced into thin rounds and then halved
1/2 pear, cubed
Slice fruit and drop into a large pitcher. Add orange juice, then wine and stir.
Refrigerate 4-6 hours before serving.
Classic Bloody Mary
1 oz. vodka
1/2 cup tomato juice
1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
1/4 teaspoon horseradish
1/4 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
pinch of kosher salt
pinch of pepper
splash teaspoon Tabasco
1 lemon wedge
Mix together the vodka, tomato juice, lemon juice, horseradish, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, and Tabasco. Serve over ice in a tall glass with a lemon wedge.
