New Spirits Heading for Southern Spirits!
From Keith, Liquor Manager, Booze Wizard and Beard Master-
Hey booze fans, watching that excellent college basketball championship game really got me excited about the upcoming NBA playoffs. I am a die hard Bulls fan and am excited about our chances. I am also excited about the tastings we are organizing and the flow of wonderful spirits that are entering the store. Keith is neither nimble or quick, nor do I own a candle stick, but when it comes to sniffing out the best booze, well I am all over that *&^%$#! For example, my dearly beloved High West American Prairie Reserve has been discontinued!!!! Well my friends we scooped up every last bottle in the state so we will have it for you guys. If you never had it before, then you do not know what you are missing and just leave these bottles for us :). I hope you guys are enjoying this warm spring.
TASTINGS:
FRIDAY APRIL 10TH 3:30-6:30 TOWN BRANCH
The latest addition to the Bourbon trail will be here pouring their excellent booze! Chris will be here representing this new but already excellent distillery. These guys are doing a fantastic job and I love everything they make including their fantastic beer Kentucky Bourbon Ale! If we could pour beer on this side I would have included it. The Pearse Lyons is such a fun and interesting whiskey it is worth coming for that alone. Their flagship bourbon is one of the smoothest whiskey’s you will ever taste, but their rye is one of the biggest and wildest! Isn’t whiskey awesome? That one distillery can make such a fun range with just three bottles!
SATURDAY APRIL 11 3:30-6:30 DIXIE
Can you tell how much we love Dixie? We do not own stock in the company, and while we are proud that it is a local vodka, there are plenty of local products that we do not support with such enthusiasm. The real reason behind our drive for Dixie is because it represents what we are all about. Our top concern is finding the best possible bottle for you guys for the best possible price. So when we switch you from Cuervo to Luna Azul, or Bacardi to Don Q it is because we believe that we are helping you save money and improving your selection. I will put Dixie vodka up against any Vodka in its price range and a lot of vodka’s that are more expensive than it. It is what is in my freezer and that is why we are trying to put it in your hand. However, at the end of the day none of that means anything if you do not like it, so come out and try it, and see for yourself.
KEITH’S CABINET: What Keith is drinking now.
GLENDRONACH 15: Was in a bad mood, problem solved! So goooood.
American Prairie Reserve: Upon hearing that this beauty was being discontinued I nearly wept, but instead we bought every remaining case in the state to make it last as long as we could. So in honor of your departure I revisited you and found you to be as wonderful as ever!
PARTIDA REPOSADO: Last weeks tasting was another reminder of how great of a job these guys do.
BLUE COAT GIN: Such a tasty martini this gin makes.
GRAPEFRUIT SCULPIN: An amazing beer!
MEDLEY BROTHERS MANHATTAN: Wrong season, so what! I love Manhattans. Especially this one.
NEW ARRIVALS
BLACK DIRT BOURBON: This is another craft spirits world darling. From New York this is a true craft distillery. No juice is being bought, these guys are making everything themselves and it is supposedly good stuff.
BLACK DIRT APPLE BRANDY: This one is getting even better reviews than the bourbon! I will be buying one of these sooner rather than later because I do love a good apple brandy and I try to support the true craft distilleries.
MY AMARO: Yes we have added another good Amaro. Why? Because in the future people will be drinking lots of cocktails with Amaro in them. I have been to the future and that is what the “cool” people drink in the future. What is an Amaro? An Amaro is a bitter Italian liqueur that can be used as a sweet vermouth substitute or added to any drink you want to taste less sweet.
MY SAMBUCA: The only section the store I do not like in the whole store is the anise section, but I can still tell a good one from a bad one and this one is outstanding. The whole staff was blown away.
MY AMARETTO: Wow! This was the belle of the ball. This is the best Amaretto I have ever had!!!
DON Q GRAN ANEJO: This is Don Q’s highest rum. Have not had it yet, but I love Don Q. Brought this in based on a customer request.
GIFFARD MENTHE: While the nose on this smells like an altoid factory it is so clean, smooth, and refreshing.
ALBERTA DARK RYE: My hero Chuck Cowder, (whiskey historian) has given this a thumbs up and that is good enough for me. Canada is definitely in need of an excellent whiskey, so here we go. Pretty excited about this guy.
