New Whiskeys, Beer & More at Southern Spirits!
Southern Spirits is ALWAYS bringing you the best! Here’s a look at what Keith has been up to this week and the new items he has to share!
NEW ARRIVALS:
JEFFERSONS OCEAN: This is the whiskey these guys put out every two years, that they sail around the world like the French sale the cognac Kelt Du Monde. The idea in both cases being that the rocking of the waves improves the aging of the whiskey. Right now in a lab somewhere, there is a small barrel of whiskey being shaken by a paint can mixer!! Is it baloney, is it real? The Cognac is very tasty, and by all accounts so is the bourbon. I only got a tiny amount so I expect it to be gone by Friday at the latest.
IOWA MOONSHINE: My man DB, picked this out to be a winner. It is a somewhat aged moonshine that is both smooth but has some of the oaky character of traditional whiskey.
COLD RIVER BLUEBERRY: This top of the line blueberry vodka was requested by several customers who saw that we have the gin. I have not had it, but it is well reviewed and like Hangar One, they use real blueberries instead of goobedly gock.
FORDS GIN: Okay I believe we have the best Gin selection in the universe. This Gin was requested by multiple customers and I listen (my mother would be so surprised to hear that I listen!, and so would my friends and employees) Back to the Gin, this was created by the maker of Plymouth, (one of my favorites!). It was designed specifically for Martini’s, Negroni’s, and GT’s. Looking forward to adding it to my overstuffed cabinet.
PEARSE LYONS RESERVE: What happens when an Irishman makes whiskey in Kentucky using a Scottish still? Something wonderful happens. From the distillery that brought you Town Branch and Kentucky Bourbon Ale, comes this wonderful malt whiskey!
As most of you know I have a steady stream of awesome new products coming in and I do not always get to try them immediately. So I think I will add this short segment to update everyone on how my experiments are going.
Old Medley 12-Sometimes you wait to taste something for a long time and it ends up being a dud, but every once in a while it delivers on its promise! Old Medley 12 is an outstanding bourbon that can rival anything in its section! Very smooth, but also very long!!!
Medley Brothers-This is the younger version of Old Medley, and for those of us that like our Bourbons young and powerful, this is a treat. Still smooth enough to sip on, I really loved the full body and intensity of this whiskey.
Herencia Blanco-As a rule I prefer aged Tequila, but rules are made to be broken and this Herencia has a big full body and a clean smooth finish. This is why I drink Tequila, because you can get this level of quality for under 40.
BEER NEWS: The best beer buyer in the world (Summer) just got back from the new Sierra Nevada distillery in Asheville and found it to be a top notch installation. She brought in two new beers from them and built a lovely display on our floor. Sierra is a pioneer in the development and rise of craft beers, without them we might all still be drinking Bud!
NOONER-Sierra has made a session beer. A low alcohol beer that can be consumed…during noon! So clever aren’t they?
