Meet Our New Beer Manager, Victor Taylor
At Southern Spirits, we are always eager to bring in specialists who have a passion for what they do and for what they drink. This year, we added superstar Keith to the beer team, but he is taking our beloved Dan’s spot on the liquor side. (Dan has decided to retire and travel and we could not be more excited for him and wish him the best on his journeys. He has been a fantastic part of our team for years!) That left us needing a new beer manager and Victor Taylor is that man!
Here’s our Q & A session with the man himself…
SS: What’s your full name?
VL: Victor L. Taylor
SS: Where do you live?
VL: Right here in Fort Mill, South Carolina
SS: Where were you born?
VL: Greensboro, North Carolina
SS: Where did you grow up?
VL: I grew up kinda everywhere. After graduating high school in Greensboro, NC, my family moved to Dallas, TX. I lived in Dallas two years, then I joined the U.S. Navy. I traveled half way around the world in the Navy, and upon returning to the states, I spent a couple of years in San Diego, CA. I could go on and on…I’ve lived all over the country.
SS: Where did you go to college?
VL: I attended N.C. State University undergrad, and Clemson for grad school.
SS: How long have you been in the beverage industry?
VL: I have been in the industry professionally for 15 years.
SS: Why do you love this job?
VL: Beer is my life! It is all I’ve ever truly wanted to do since a very young age. This job is perfect for me, because I get to really teach our customers about beer. Customers will get “beer-ducation” when they come into Southern Spirits.
SS: Are you married?
VL: No!!!!! (You heard it here first, ladies!)
SS: Do you have kids?
VL: Yes, I have a 21 year-old daughter named Salena Milan Taylor!
SS: What sport teams do you love?
VL: I love anything N.C State and Clemson…any sport.
SS: Give one crazy fact about yourself.
VL: I fell in love with beer at the age of 8yrs old.
SS: What are your favorite beers?
VL: I really love lagers…German lagers. I consider myself a lager guy, in-fact!
SS: What are you hoping to do in your department to make it better?
VL: I want to provide our customers with an education on beer. I also want to make sure we have the “Best” beer selection in South (or North) Carolina. There is really no reason to have a great selection of beer if one is not able to give customers a factual story behind each beer. Customers deserve overwhelming information about each and every beer in a quality beer store, and that’ what customers will get at Southern Spirits.
So next time you are in, be sure to say HELLO to Victor and ask him to turn you on to something new!
